DDR2 prices dropping

For how long prices of DDR2 modules are going to drop?
When will they reach their lower limit and how much will that limit be?
Does this depends on avaibility of DDR3 modules?

I'm not a pro, but I would guess that they're not going to go much lower. Will they keep dropping? Sure, probably, but it's not going to be much more, IMO.

I don't know if they'll drop much anymore, 1GB costs close to nothing nowadays, and they have to be more expensive than DDR and so it's not going to happen unless they start giving DDR out for free.

The REAL question is when do DDR3 prices start dropping, it's ridiculous that you need to pay extra for a DDR3 board and the memory itself is so expensive that no one in their right mind will buy it.

I never thought they would get this low. I thought I got a real deal on my 8500 for $120. I just picked 6400 tracers for $50 from the last buy.com deal. I cant imagine it would get much lower than this.

supposedly taiwanese and korean ram manufacturers are going to lower capital expenditures and production next year.

that is why flash ram is dropping in price quickly now, as most dram and flash fabs can convert lines.

i think a large portion of the drop was 2 things . vista not being adopted that quick, and flash production cuts at the start of 07.

also a lot of plants were still moving to 300mm dies so that was just like opening a ton of plants compared to older plants on 200mm dies. 1gbit chips were also being transitioned to (thats why 2gb dimms are way cheaper than they used to be).


so maybe it will stay stable for a bit, and vista adoption is picking up... so demand will be higher next year probably

I cannot see them ever being any lower than they are now. And, once companies start more ramping up for DDR3, DDR2 will start going back up in price due to supply and demand.

If you check out Newegg, you can find 2gb of PC2 800 ram for $45, free shipping PLUS $10 mail-in-rebate. So, you can get 2gb of ram for $35 now! I think they might get just a little lower because 2gb is the norm now and DDR3 is trying to become the norm. This would be a great time to get ram if you want good stuff for a good price. The ram I priced is here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820211066. This ram has great reviews and there is a version without the heatspreader that is $2 cheaper. You may not see much lower prices, but you will see more mail-in rebates making them cheaper in the end.

*shrug* Older RAM gets expensive. Compare DDR with DDR2, so expect the same with DDR2 and DDR3...
