Returned the Roku TV to Walmart for refund, got the newer TV (HiSense 55A7N from Target) up and running, not Roku this time but rather "Google TV". It's basically a glorified Android tablet with a ginormous screen! During first startup, it immediately asked if want to setup Google TV or 'Basic TV' i.e. without creating any online accounts.
