Cops are generally pretty cool these days. Back when i was a kid they were all built like linebackers and you would end up in the hospital for "resisting arrest" if you even gave them lip. With that said this is unacceptable and torture - hope he gets paid.

my dad was a harris county deputy in the 70's,,,, they had two man patrols because it was so dangerous and if they got called to a beloved patriot-tonk bar fight, people were going to feel the pain of the night stick... way different times than today.

One thing that I think is a very important factor is that there were a total of nine people taken into custody and questioned. Those holding cells were used to separate them while they were being questioned.

Seven of those people were arrested and transferred to county jail.

Chong was forgotten in a holding cell designed for holding someone for hours, not days. A ninth person was released, just like Chong was supposed to be released.

Would anybody be surprised if that ninth person also happened to be Asian?

What if there was a conversation like this between two agents handling the nine subjects:

Agent 1: What happened to that Asian kid?
Agent 2: Oh him? We cut him loose.
Agent 1: Ah okay, good to know.

Also not sure if this has been mentioned but I believe that sometimes cocaine is cut with corn starch, this might be why Chong decided to eat the unidentified powder he found hidden in the blanket in his cell. I think I have heard that sometimes cocaine is also cut with Tide although not sure if there is any truth to that. I would think you could easily tell Tide from corn starch by smell. At any rate he was certainly extremely desperate by the point he would eat an unidentified powder he found in a DEA cell.

Whether or not it was life altering, it was a civil rights violation and he will get money from a Sec. 1983 claim. How much is debatable.

I really doubt that anyone would dehydrate themselves for five days in order to try to get a settlement.

Unfortunately this guy's lawsuit will be difficult because of sovereign immunity, although one would hope that someone who's tortured nearly to death by the federales has some legal recourse.

Nominee for the dumbest post of the year..Getting involved with meth is a really bad idea and if caught the fines and or jail time are significant. The process would involve arrest, trial and convection not to be brought to death's doorstep by lack of water for days at a time, he's lucky to be alive ..
