I think it's OEM due to having 3 years warranty. According to the website, the retail version still carries a 5 year warranty. I was under the impression that all drives now only have 3years.

Interesting. Was probably work of the seagate trolls (IE, the ones saying "all seagates are crap now". That simply isn't how engineering works. They'll fix the problems and in 3 months their drives will be fine).

Just to update, I received mine today, firmware CC1H which means I don't need to update.

I also checked the warranty online, and Seagate confirmed valid until 12/29/2013. This means 5 year warranty, not 3.

I absolutely love Newegg, but their method of packing oem drives is terrible. Dell's packing is 1000x better.

Also, as of right now, this deal is back alive again.

My brother bought one of these. He checked it on the seagate site for the firmware problem and it came up negative. He hasn't had any issues with the drive, either.

bought one. it has cc1h firmware and so forth there doesn't seem to be a problem.

however, I have a pretty quiet system and adding the drive has increased my system noise very noticeably. although the seek noise is not loud, at least not unpleasantly loud, there's now a constant whine as if my CPU fan is on high (it's not). I tried the acoustic management setting but it has no effect that I can tell on either seek or idle noise level. annoying. I'm having buyer remorse now. (yeah yeah I know, I bought it knowing about the firmware problem yet now I complain about the noise. we all have our buggaboos.)

Input your model # and serial #. My CC1H I just received has a 5 year warranty. OEM from Dell from this deal thread.

Edit: From what I understand, the new 3 year warranty for OEM drives are for drives MADE after 1/1/2009, not SOLD after.

My warranty end date being 12/29/2013 means it was made in Dec of 2008 which means it still falls under the 5 year warranty.
