I would also know if you can switch between inputs. I have not been able to figure out how yet. I have the DVI to 1 comp, the analog to another.

A clerk in a BB store told me last night that he could order them from an instore terminal from a warehouse in Texas if I wanted one, they had 47 in stock the last time he checked. I specifically asked him if that was considered an online order (so the 2nd rebate could be valid ) and he said no.

Well, I'm using mine right now, and it looks great. Maybe my eyes aren't that sensitive, but I don't really see any ghosting. I don't play too many games, so I'm not worry about it too much. I'm hooked up to my Radeon AIW DVI port and it's nice and crisp. Seems like I'm going to keep this. Should I opt for the extended warranty? or should I just let my CC extended warranty handle it?

Even if you did order online the 2nd rebate wouldn't be valid as the end date was Monday.

In response to Kraeji, my out of the door price was $459. Originally $599, marked down to $459, then the $160 rebate printed out with it. But my previous post was incorrect about the amount taken off ($50).

Also, they are back instock on the website with the rebate and the instant $140 savings.

If I could order online, I would send in the $50 rebate also, with the widely available version that has an expire date of 2/8/03. If it was denied I would call and complain that I printed it from the BB website where it clearly stated that the monitor had 2 rebates. I would of course have copies of the rebate and the page that shows 2 rebates to prove my point. They put it there, it should be valid. If they change a rebate after you print it out they should still honor it. Its worth a shot.

As far as the warranty goes - normally lcds are unrepairable. Therefore Bestbuy has the product marked as DEVO. DEVO means that bestbuy HAS to exchange rather than service the unit under warranty. The only exception is if the warranty states that a certain number of pixels have to go out before mfg warranty kicks in. In my experience it is usually one square inch or 12 pixels. The BBY Service Plan negates that and kicks in if one (1) pixel goes out. So, technically, you should not have to do mfg warranties through the mfg. Bestbuy will usually do it for you unless the warranty conditions are not met. Otherwise I have seen some BBYs that will not exchange anything unless you specifically ask if it is DEVO and tell them that it is under mfg warranty. Some shady stores out there.

I hope this helps your warranty questions out.

Yea, I talked with them in detail about the warranty yesterday before I got it and they guarenteed me that if anything goes wrong with it (aside from me physically abusing it) even just one dead pixel, you bring it back and they give you a brand spanking new one on the spot . . . assuming they have it in stock I guess.

There's a question. So what happens if 2 years from now it goes out and they no longer carry that monitor. I believe that under their policy they would have to give you the current equivalent monitor or better, at least that is how it works with my camcorder policy.

And if that's what you are doing about the $50 rebate, Branded, then by all means, go ahead. I must have missed that copy of the rebate. Yea, the worst they can do is say no. Still a great deal without the extra $50 rebate. I'll probably send it in too in the hopes that they might honor it. If not, no biggie.

Also, I can't get over the color quality on this thing. Normally, I've used the nView color correction to boost the vividness of the colors on my other LCD, but there is no need to even turn it on with this one. I continue to be impressed.

Per the wording in your service plan brochure: Replacements are given on a TECHNOLOGY basis. This guarantees a comparable product but not necessarily price. So 2 years from now you may receive a 17" flat panel not to exceed the in store price paid originally. So if you paid 500 in store today, next year if there is a comparable product for 399 you would get that monitor and NO cash back. mostly it goes by price though. The technology clause basically just covers for BBY not having to give you any money back. Rarely will you get a replacement of a high end product with something terribly low end in the future. If you dont think the replacement is fair- just have a good reasoning and you can bump up a model providided it is still under your original purchase price paid.

I would not buy the extended warranty. In general, if you don't have a problem within the manufacturer's warranty period, you won't have a problem within an extended warranty period. It is not good money management to spend an extra 18%-20% for something that you may never use. Here you are reading a board on how to save money. . . and you are willing to spend the cost of 1/6-1/5 of another monitor? If you have that extra money, why not buy a better monitor to begin with?

I have a question. Does it make a difference what video card you use if you are using DVI?

I'm having some serious display problems with mine.

I'm using an analog GF3 no DVI. Resolution is set to 1280x1024 (tried 60-75Hz) 32 bit color depth (also tried 16bit)

I tried to play a movie and some of the areas of the persons faces seems to be shaded with gray (you know like mud was splattered across the forehead to the chin). Also I could only adjust the brightness on the controls other setting doesn't let me. Is there something that I miss?

It appears the ghosting varies upon the colors. Visit the hardforms and notice that the orange text ghosts while you scroll up and down the webpage, unlike the blue and black text here at AT.

Just ordered another one to try and use the $50 rebate. Don't have anything to lose except time.

I wish we could find out the Response Time on this monitor..... does the manual list a phone number?

For that matter I wish I know the Response Time of my current LCD, a Viewsonic VG 150.... seems fine to me in games, etc. (BF1942)

I'd like to know the response time as well, but why dwell on it. Isn't it the real world performance that counts? I'd whether have hands on impressions over numbers anyday.

This monitor is similar in design and specs (but not all, e.g., 400:1, not 500:1 contrast ratio) to the Samsung 171p, including the "Design by F.A. Porsche". The 171p has a response rate of 25 ms.

I'm still debating to myself too weather to get the extended warranty. However, if what the previous poster said is true, that even with one dead pixel, i can trade for a new one, then that'd be wonderful isnt it? So we can use this monitor for almost 3 years, and trade for a new one right before the warranty ends (hoping that there'd be one dead pixel by then) The manufacturer warranty for this LCD is only 1 year seems useless to me.

However, I'm wondering about how warranty will be covered for this LCD. Because like other people said, BestBuy doesnt offer extended warranty for this product, so they just print something out, and stapled it to the reciept... anyone know what will happen in this case?

Just to make it a bit more interesting, a CSR I spoke to says that the warranty covers the original retail value of the monitor (not the sales value). In other words even though you got this monitor for cheap, they will honor the warranty for $599, so in the event they can't find a replacement for you, they will find one of equal value. So potentially you could score big time if your monitor takes a dump in the next 3 years you may get a $600 LCD for a replacement.
