Most of those contrast numbers are pretty bunk anyways.

My 1800fp claims to be 350:1, which sounds pretty pitiful, but it looks better than a lot of monitors out there.

I've never heard of 19" LCD running at 1600x1200, that would be ridiculously small, I doubt any are capable of it.

Planar makes one.

Too bad the walmart one is sold out already :/

Are you f*cking blind?

I have a 19" CRT, 18" viewable, and I run 1920x1440. Most people with 19" CRTs run 1600x1200. If I had a 19" LCD, with 1 extra inch viewable than a CRT, I'd be pissed if it didn't have 1600x1200 native, if not higher res.

Besides, 17" LCDs run 1280x1024. Why do 19" LCDs run the same res? That's what's ridiculous.

OMFG dude, 1920x1440? Why? Because you can? Seems like you're gonna be the one that's gone blind soon...

My 19" is 1280x1024...every other one I saw while I was shopping was also...

Dude, running a 19" CRT at 1600 x 1200 is ridiculous! My 19" SONY 400PS CRT runs 1024 x 768, and is tolerable at 1280 x 960. Anything higher looks like crap. 1600 x 1200 on a screen that small is nuts.

Dont forget that your 19 inch crt is around 18 inches viewable and cant be compared to a 19 inch LCD as its really 19 inches viewable. 1280x1024 is perfect for 17 inch LCD's but I cant comment on a 19 inch LCD as I havent seen one in action yet.

Do you run normal font size or large size? I can't imagine running default size. Sheesh, icons on the desktop must be about 4mm tall.

I have to agree with mach. I could never get used to anything below 1600x1200. Im sorry but i think the rest of the world are the blind ones. I run dual 19"s at school and a single at home. I also do tons of graphic design work though and the more room on my desktop the better. Im considering a 21" trinitron with a max of 20xx X 15xx resolution and i almost gurrentee you i would use it with no problem. Sure i dont game at those resolutions well other than stradegy games. I have most of my font set to one size up from default and my icons i guess are normal size becuase i havent changed them.

As for the LCD i would only be getting it to bring to lans with me rather than lugging around my huge 19" sammy. But sense the response is 25ms i wont be going this route. Im guessing that after the holidays into march LCDs will be about 300 for a good 16ms monitor with hopefully higher res and then i will go with one of those.

In case you do not want to chance this brand or the specs do not work for you, the Dell 18" can now be had for not much more after the current 25% LCD code. It was not available for the code saving before because it had a percentage off, but when I checked today there was no % off so it should be fair game, and the specs sound good on it.

Wow. If I was running 1024x768 on a 19" CRT, I'd feel like I was blind. I already almost can't stand 1024x768 on a 17", it feels so 'low-res'. I would run 1280x1024, but this CRT will only do that @60Hz, and I'd rather not have the flicker, although everything else looks "better" (subjectively - to me at least) at a higher resolution. I also set my Windows' UI widgets to be as small as possible (scroll-bar width) and still look acceptable, and set my text-editor font size to the smallest readable fixed-size raster font that I can. I find "Hyperfnt" 6-point to be excellent, it used to be downloadable for from from Hilgraeve, don't know if it still is. It's all about the highest text density possible, while still being readable. Oh yeah, I sit with my face about about 8-10" from the screen, that might have something to do with it too.
My preferred size/res settings:
14" - 1024x768
15" - 1024x768, maybe slightly higher if the tube can do it, most can't
17" - 1280x1024
19" - 1600x1200
20/21" - 1920x1440

(Edit: point noted, sorry for the OT rant in this thread.)

We didn't ask for your personal preferences. How does this monitor perform? Anyone?

What refresh rates do you people get on your CRTs at 1600x1200? My 19" can only muster 85Hz, and that's like looking at the sun...

My mistake ... it is the 19" Dell, not the 18" and now there is a small % off in education ... don't know about home or business.
