the local Columbus Day Saving flyer has K-byte 256MB PC2100 for $29.94 after $17.00 instant savings and $23.00 MIR.
This is not much of a deal, but all the sticks at my local Staples were in fact PC2700,clearly labled as DDR 333 with Elixir chips. I have seen this K-byte ram with Infineon,Hynix and other chips on it.
I hear this is common now as not many make PC2100 anymore.

Still not much of a deal but , If you got the e-mail from Staples last week for this weeks in store specials follow the link to browse the flyer. Go to Special Savings Home > Computers & Software > Computer Memory & Data Storage Systems.
If K-Byte 128mb pc100 is listed for $9.94 after rebate click on the image or underlined link for that item. What do you see right below the pc100 price and discription ? ?

I see "K-Byte 256MB PC2100 DDR memory 489628 ? $39.98 - $10 instant savings - $20 mail-in rebate = $9.94 " this is now getting to be a OK deal since it's PC2700.

I took the printout of the page with me cause I knew the add had a diff price, they honored the price. The reciept printed out with the in-store rebate of $23.00 rather than the $20.00 that was shown in the e-mail.

$39.98
$10.00 IR
$23.00 MIR
-----------
$6.98 for 256 PC2700 YMMV

check your e-mail

I am kindof surprised this is not as big of a hit as it should be. Memory prices are trash now!

Anyhoo, I can conform your deal for the East Lansing, MI MSU area (and a nice one at that).

You can view your Store Specials from www.staples.com > find a store (lookup for my store took forever) it will then list the stores closest to you > click on the $ with the circle for viewing your instore specials > there should be some K-Byte SDRAM for 9.9X, click on that > you will then see that there is some DDR available for the same price, print that up and march on to your local Staples.

The memory rang up at 52.9X, not 29.9X like the special says it should, that will cause headaches but they should honor it because they are the same SKU's. Apparently they have also not fixed their MIR printups, the guy self scanned in the memory for 29.9X thinking the $20 MIR would print-up, I got the $23 MIR. By that time they guy was just like take it and have a nice day.

I have not opened my memory yet but viewing it from outside the box I got Elixir pc2100 chips, didn't see anything about pc2700, I will see what happens during bootup.

Have at it!

at my Staples the ram was in new packaging from what I have seen from K-Byte in the past, it's was not the long blister pack like Kingston and most use, it was a flat blister pack almost square. about the size of a CD jewel case. The front of the package is marked as PC2100, but you can see the ram if you turn the package over. 2 stickers showing it as pc2700 /DDDR333

the chips on mine are N2DS25608BT-6K

When in doubt I always ask to see 5-6 or however many sticks it takes to find what I'm after. You could always go back to the store and look at all the K-Byte DDR they have, in hope of finding pc2700

Are you saying that that front of the sticks are labeled as pc2100 on the stickers and the stickers on the back are pc2700, or the package is labeled as pc2100 and the stickers on the memory are pc2700. I could not get to the back of the sticks to check, only the front, and I saw pc2100 stickers...

MMDNV(VM)!

My Mileage Did Not Very (Very Much)

I too went in with a print-out of this deal from the on-line version of the Staples weekly flyer and after some initial confusion they gave me the deal!

The shelf tag, showing the higher after rebate price, also stated "Limit 3" so I asked if I could have three and they said OK. Sure enough, the register printed me three sets of the rebate form / rebate receipt!

That's $20.82 for 768MB of RAM!

My mileage did vary with the speed of the memory though. Mine looks to be actual PC2100, not the PC2700 others were finding. Two of them have the "SpecTek" hologram, a sticker saying PC2100, and "-75A" on the chips themselves. The other has "PQI" chips marked as "DDR--7--T" and no other indication of speed. IIRC the chips must be "--6" for PC2700.

Even so, I'm currently building two PC's, one for our kids and another for the local ballet studio my girls attend and PC2100 is fine.

So, THANKS osage!!! This was an excellent deal for our family!

PS. My local Staples must still have the older Kbyte packaging (and thus older RAM) as you cannot see the back of the DIMM without opening the package up.

FordLorider, the cardboard in the blister pack has pc2100 on it,this is what you see when it's hanging on the disply.. the ram itself is labled as pc2700.

this summer OMax had this ram for free after rebate, it was also listed as pc2100, but was really SpecTek pc2700. always check the ram and don't believe the package.

glad it worked out for someone. this is not the best ram on the planet, but shopuld work fine for stock applications, it it has problems at default speeds just take it back.

How are you going to do 3 rebates with this? The ad might say Limit 3, but what is the limit on the rebate?

Thanks Osage, went in tonight and scored a stick that is labeled pc 2700 on the back with Elixier -6 chips. The sales dude wanted the deal for himself , so it was a easy deal. I even pointed out the pc 2700 label on the back, his eyes lit up and he was almost drooling. He did not see the 23.00 rebate print out, he'll flip when he buys his.

Techie333,

That's a good question and you had me worried. I took the "limit 3" to mean "you can send in for 3 rebates". While it could mean that, it could also mean otherwise.

Thankfully, the rebate form actually states: "Limit three rebates per name/address/household."

If you order it online (1 order each), each stick will be $5 AR with the $5 off $20 coupon. But you may not get the PC2700 online. $15 for 3 sticks, not bad at all even it's PC2100. You probably won't feel the difference in speed between the two if you have a CPU running at 2.8GHz.

If your B&M store has an ordering kiosk then you can use the coupon in store... but wait, then you have to pay shipping unless you spend at least $50.

Yes, as stated above I was speaking of the final after rebate price of $20.82 for the 3 sticks of ram.

Each stick actually rings up at $52.94 before the price adjustments and rebates -- so this deal works out to be 3 for the price of half of one!!

Details of how my local Staples rung it up:

$52.94 Scanned Price
$-23.00 Price Adjustment
----------
$29.94 Out the door price (plus tax)

$-23.00 Mail-in Rebate
----------
$6.94 Final Price

Thus, $6.94 * 3 = $20.82

I bought 2 sticks about 1 month ago...I got 1 stick with PQI chips and 1 stick with Elixier chips. The stick with the Elixier chips was defective (i.e., I changed the dimm position of both sticks to every possible combo and my Epox 8rda board kept beeping and the led codes stopped at the RAM code). I returned the Elixier stick and got another PQI stick (I've heard that PQI may be affiliated with Kingston but I'm not sure) and haven't had any problems since.

Great deal and some pretty good RAM.

Regards,

Bud

Thanks Guys. I could really use extra memory. I'm calling the rebate center to make sure they'll honor all 3 rabates in one rebate order. Do we need to send the rebates separetelly or can we sent them all at once?

Yes, it's there. You have to go to the details page by clicking on the image of the PC100 128MB RAM. At the bottom of the details page you'll see additional listings for both the "K-Byte 256MB PC2100 DDR memory" and some "K-Byte 256MB PC133 SDRAM memory". Print this page, mark the PC2100 DDR with a highlighter and take it into your local Staples.

Went to a local B&M store in Sacramento, CA and the prices are definitely $29.99 in store plus MIR. Only drawback was all the chips were PC2100, and they actually had a seperate memory modules that are listed specifically as PC2700 for $79.99. Bummer. Still a solid deal for those looking for DDR memory.
