Note: many people are getting backordered notices emailed after ordering. As long as the product ships by 8/15 (last day to purchase for rebate) all is good. If it doesn't ship by then... get online and cancel order prior to being billed.

Don't forget you have less than a week (8/15) before this has to ship from GW2K and it is backordered some 18000 units according to the GW2K phone CSR. If the rebate processing house was other than TCA, it might be safe to try the rebate with a ship date past 8/15 since the order date would be within the rebate period, but for TCA this is just another reason for them to deny your rebate claim. Also if you order more than one ( rebate allows one rebate per purchase) you will need a seperate order for each drive as the rebate requires the original invoice. This is just another "technicality" for TCA to deny your rebate if you don't comply. IMO, if you really wan one wihout the TCA risk, wait until all the eBay fools flood eBay with these and you should be able to get one for under $50. Toshiba has also just reduced their 5GB version of this drive to $199 MSRP so the street price should drop to the $140 level within a couple of weeks This will drive the stret prices of these 2GB drives well under $100.

NO 18000 backordered as of 2:00PM EST today. This deal has been posted since yesterday on some boards. This combined with all the eBayers looking to make a quick buck by ordering multiples since the rebate allows this quickly drives up the backordered quantity.

For those of you who recall, the Gateway Accesory Store offered a similar hot deal about tis time last year on the HP 9900ci combo CD-RW/DVD drive. Some people who ordered those in July where still receiving their orders into October well past the rebate deadline. If you plan to order, I would cancel if you do not receive a ship confirmation by 8/15, but that is just my opinion.

I got this email from them. Basically, they say that if the item was purchased by the rebate expiration date, it will still be accepted up to 30 days later.

I ordered one assuming that information is correct. If it doesn't ship within two weeks, I'll just cancel the order.

$100 rebate is alot to leave on the table.

I talked with a GateWay CSR, and was told I can return the item within 15 days of delivery without any penalty. So if they ships it out before I was able to cancel the order, I can simply return it back to GateWay.
