And it's a Maxtor so you should raid 2 of these...
I would pick it up if it was a Seagate w/5-yr warranty

ive said it before and i'll say it again, if your data is so damn important, you should've RAID1 or 5 it or at least do regular tape or external hdd backups.

its not the money lost or the hassle of RMA'ing a drive, its the data loss thats most painful IMO.

The worst part is not knowing what data you actually lost. I had 300GB go up in smoke and I'm not sure exactly what I lost.

personally i have 2 of these maxtors, and another maxtor external 300GB usb2, and another maxtor external NAS 300GB. they are all fine and quiet.

i put data that i absolutely cannot afford to lose (ex digital photos, home videos) on a RAID1 setup or backup with tape/external drives

The real world difference is that Outpost is OOS.
Newegg has the two models I mentioned in stock for slightly more with the possibility of faster transfer rates.

I haven't own a Seagate drive since the 486 era, and I currently have 10+ Maxtor & WD drives with me. Both of the advance RMA service worked more than fine for me in the past few years.

By the way.. as many of you say that Seagate drives are unbelievely reliable, then how did you find out about their warranty service being excellent?

I try and purchase this drive and while the order page states 79.00 it's listed as 139.00 in my shopping cart! I've just about given up on Outpost.com. they either list bogus pricing or after taking the order it goes into permanent backorder!! iN MY OPINION THEY JUST PLAIN SUCK!!

I got confirmation that mine shipped today.

Tracking info says it was picked up at Outpost but doesn't say where it is at the moment.

Site says available for preorder now at $79.99.

Mine arrived.
It turns out that they delivered it to the wrong house on my street.
Package had correct address.
Wrong house clearly had their number, not mine, on their door above where the delivery man left my HD on their porch.

The manual mentions that it has both a SATA power connection and the standard pin power connection on the back of the drive.
Mine only has the SATA power connection.
The did include a pin to SATA power adaptor.
I have an older Maxtor SATA HD that does have both power connections.

The manual mentions that it comes with 5.25" bay adaptors.
Mine didn't.
This is the one time I actually new I was putting it in a 5.25" bay when I ordered it.
Luckily I had a set of adaptors on hand.

I didn't use the Maxblast 4 software supplied on disc as I already had MB4 installed from a previous HD.
I dion't know if they have 4.x.x versions of MB4 or not.
My old MB4 installed it fine but ate up 29GB.
I'll have to fix that with Partition Magic 8.
I've found that XP often wastes space that I can reclaim with PM8.
