8600..., 700M..., or 600M...

let me know what you decide. I think 6.9lbs for the 8600 isnt that bad. only a couple of lbs over the 700m.

Well this is how I see it...

8600 with WUXGA (1920x1200) is the best option if this is your only computer, and you don't mind the weight
700m with 8 cell battery is for the traveler/fashion slave
600m is a good value, middle of the road, but most users should really pick the 8600 or 700m

Probably go with the 700m myself for a few reasons. We have several (too many) computers but not a 'travel-size', this will be primarily for my Wife, and this is one of Dell's newest models. I also don't imnd the long wait, it will give me a chance to check-out the Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) sales before being locked in to the Dell.

badass deal but...sigh I can't believe I'm gonna let this deal slip by...I'm outta college now and I guess I don't need a laptop anymore to replace the aging thinkpad. Laptops will only get better and cheaper as time goes by anyways...

I'm in Oregon, we don't get charged for sales tax on anything. I'll have to check this deal out, i've been looking for a laptop for a while.

tyim, you should check your math

I just configured a 700m in Small Business, came to $1200 with the same options as the 700m in Home (except better wireless as it's a free upgrade). With 25% off it's $900 PLUS TAX! I don't pay tax in Home, so for me it would be much better deal, about $150 or so better.

All you experts out there: Which lappy and in what configuration do you feel (and why) would be the best value in a gaming laptop? I play a LOT of graphics intensive games (COD for example). I appreciate your advice ...

OK, I went ahead and jumped on this.
I got my "Order Acknowledgement" immediately and I got my "Order Confirmation" about 10 minutes later.

Inspiron 8600
Pentium M 715
15.4" WXGA
512 MB (2x256)
128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo
40 GB HDD
CD-RW/DVD Combo drive
Dell Wireless 1350 Internal Wireless (802.11b/g, 54Mbps)
3 year limited warranty w/mail-in service (the extra cost for at-home service wasn't worth it to me)
Free standard shipping

$1696 - $500 - $200 rebate (hopefully) = Total cost: $996

When I did the final checkout confirmation, it did show the $200 rebate.
And my Order Confirmation email has:
"Save $200 with mail-in rebate. Price shown before rebate. Qty: 1
Unit Price: $0.00"

When I go to dell.com and check my order status, the $200 rebate DOES show up in the order details section.

"$200 MAIL-IN REBATE 51114. Redeem within 30 days of ship date at dell4me.com/ rebates"

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think dell just has a generic rebate form for all their rebates. To get a rebate, it has to be specifically listed on your packing slip. Hopefully, the fact that the rebate shows up on my order confirmation and on the order status page means it will show up on the packing slip also. But I've never ordered from Dell before, so I kinda guessing.

Hopefully, the rebate will go through, but even if it doesn't it's still a great deal.
Just the $500 coupon is equivalent to an almost 30% discount and the biggest coupons I've seen have been 25% off.

Correct.

Dell Home Rebates

Make sure the $200 rebate is listed in your order details and on your packing slip when you receive the laptop.

Nice specs BTW! The 600m or 8600 is what I would buy. But I already have WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to many laptops/desktops/LCDs/digicams to last me a lifetime
