Yeah the Envy 14 is what this would be awesome for.

I spec'ed out the top Dual core, 4 gb ram, their LED based radiance display, and 2x batteries, etc for ~$900. That said, I still think the m11x might have a slight edge in price/performance ratio. Not sure though.

Any idea on expiration date for this?

I am concerted it would be too hot and at least for my uses I don't need a super power machine. I like quiet cool computers and I'm worried about the envy being noisy. It's a great machine when configured properly. With a quad core, unfortunately, you can't make use of switchable graphics and your battery life will suffer. With an i5 dual core, battery life should be around 4-5 hours.

Absolutely DO NOT go with anything less than the Radiance Display. So long as it's like the first run of Radiance Displays, which my notebook came with, it's one of the best screens available in consumer laptops. It's an absolute gem.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a intel SSD G2 80GB hard drive I would probably put in this machine so I wouldn't need the hard drive upgrade.

That's a good way to go too. I bought the slice afterwards and I find it too bulky / heavy for everyday use, but absolutely excellent when all I care about is how long the battery lasts. Having ~8 hours of battery life at your disposal during a power outage, combined with phone tethering, is a godsend.

Yea I carry my slice around for when I need battery but I dont put it on until I want to use it. I just ordered another one and working on selling my current Envy 14 on craigs lol.

Has anyone tested the extra battery actually gives a total of 8hrs though? In the notebookcheck.com battery test this HP gets 1hr battery life when stressed. The alienware gets 3.....

And I bet there is a significant difference in terms of battery life between all the different CUP options. the i5 gets 1hr when stressed, imagine the i7....

I couldn't help it... I didn't need a laptop (Clevo w/ Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz 4GB RAM, Intel 80 GB SSD, GF110, 15.3", 6 Cell Battery -- which sucks, 1600x900 LED Screen - which also sucks, dvd writer)

But this deal made the Envy tooo hot to handle...

My configuration is
Max i5 CPU (i7 takes up too much battery, plus probably wont run starcraft as fast as i5)
2x2GB Ram (New egg has 2x4GB for 84 buck G.Skill too! -- don't trust Crucial anymore... too many RMA)
640GB HDD (had to make it to 1399.99 some how...)
Radiance Screen
everything else left on default....
came out to be 1399.99 even.
