I think the stand is optional. When fastcuda posted that I thought it was strange and looked in the manual, and it lists the stand as optional. And on the product page it stays the stand is an optional accessory. You may want to confirm with NEC before ordering. The stand isnt cheap.

Promo is not worth as much as the free shipping promo code used around Thanksgiving for upwards of 800 orders for NEC 1440P refurb monitors. NEC had only a few, perhaps 10 of the 1440p screens in stock. Opinions may differ, but I did not see anything to buy after taking shipping costs into account, except perhaps the pro grade color monitors (which are still too expensive for my needs).

That is correct. But don't discount CCFL backlit for it also has PWM flicker, albeit a little smoother compare to LED's which is sharper.
