I'm kinda an ATI guy myself, and it looks like, here, the X800XT performs almost identically to the 6800 Ultra, but can do it at higher resolutions (at least with the Athlon64 chips). chrisbtx, you talk about one slot, low power consumption solutions, this just may be the ideal card...

HardOCP is severely ATi biased.

Check out ATs Farcry SM3.0 preview... funny how much better the game runs when hes not using drivers with known performance problems AND image quality issues.

I was just at the Nashua store yesterday and the manager has been told to stop the pre-pay deal. He seemed like a nice enough guy but he had gotten a phone call from corporate telling him to stop.A manager in a Ma store had given me a commit letter for the 30% off price but I had a message from him that he wouldn't be able to ful-fill it because corporate said that his store would not even be getting the card. It's a smaller store and they don't get to order there own stock they just put out what the company sends them.

How did you get the 30% off to work for those that got it. When the manager at my compusa scanned the product the computer didn't take it off. Did your manager manually do it or something or did the computer do it for you? By the way my compusa listed it out of stock online.

I would say this is pretty dead for anyone trying to get it now so its not really even worth trying IMO. For those of us who did get it its not even guarented we will get it. GL though I hope it works for everyone.

I can confirm that when a store says "out of stock" it is because someone has pre-ordered there. I pre-ordered at Montclair (So Cal, 91763) and their store now says OOS. I ordered a GT monday, I tried to get an Ultra wednesday(friend wanted it, his store wouldn't pre-order) but was denied. The man said they NEVER did that. When I asked for the pre-order he said "you read it on the internet didn't you" and I replied with "no, I pre-ordered one already". Then he said something like "well we never did that legitly"

When I went in on monday I was just looking around waiting for someone to ask if I needed help, the first CrapUSA'er said they didn't preorder, but the second guy said they did. He also said at first they wouldn't do the deal, then later the manager changed his mind. I found it funny after I got the deal I read someone in the HardOCP forum had emailed corporate or something and then the montclair manager agreed to do the deal.

This is the first time in my life I have spent this much for a video card, I got in on the PNY 5900 128meg deal at circuit city for ~$120. I only did it because it was at the beginning of the product cycle and would hopefully last me some time.

I can think of one last-ditch effort to get this.

Go tomorrow to CompUSA, maybe near closing time (maybe today will work, too). Ask the guy in the PC department (you want a small fish here, not a manager) for a 6800, and see what they say (don't mention any sale or anything). If/when they say no, ask for them to check for one in the backroom/stockroom.

If they are selling these on Sunday, you can bet that they have them in the backroom on Saturday night.

Then, hopefully, the employee will check, and get you one/tell you that they have them. Tell them that you'd like to buy it cause you can't come back Sunday (July 4, busy with friends/family/relatives, etc.).

Just when you check out, show the ad. There will be no way to refuse you if you have the ad and the card in your hand.

I take it you haven't worked retail. There is a reason stores like this open at 10am instead of earlier (because they get merchandise delivered at about 6:30am that day to stock the store)

because of the internet effect and lurkers i predict that tomorrow evening compusa's all across the country will see a surge of people begging for 6800 cards. Just thought I'd say it again.

Yeah, I haven't worked in retail. But people on Hardforum saw that they have received these cards yesterday. One person looked over the shoulder of the rep, and saw that they had 50 in the backroom, and one person saw them unloading PNY boxes.

alent1234, should I remove my post?

Haha! Two little tidbits...

ATi stated publically that they are not supporting 3.0 with this product cycle, so how could their benches be so good with 3.0...?

OCP has always been fair to both companies. They were the first to break the ATi cheating on Q3 issue, they have pounced on ATi's earlier image quality issues, and they have stated their reasons openly for not using the newer nVidia drivers (the end user CAN'T GET THEM so there is no point in reviewing them).

I have been a member at HardOCP for several years, and I have been reading the site for far longer than that. AT does great reviews, but saying OCP is biased is idiotic at best. The simple fact is that ATi has had a better product for two full product cycles now. Guess what else? I own stock in nVidia.

I had my sister check for me at the Wichita, KS CompUSA, and they didn't have them in stock, nor would they let her pre-order or anything.

The funny thing though, is that she spoke to the manager and he told her that they had several in earlier in the week and that they sold them.

Do you know if there is a designated shelf space set for these cards with a tag or any thing that says 6800 ..?

Nope, I don't. I'll possibly be going down there to visit her tomorrow, and if I do, I will make sure to stop by and see if they have them in stock or anything.

Why am I still seeing people insist on checking CompUSA out, still? There's been SOOOOOOOO many reports of corporate saying to stop allowing to prepay, and even go as far as to cancel orders yet people think that they just might put a few out on the shelves during the actual sale (forcing them to discount them).

Some people just don't get it...

As of Wednesday, there was no shelf space set aside. Interestingly, the highest end card they had for sale was a 9800 PRO AIW, no XT's, no 5950's....

Okay, I'm about to call foul play on compusa here for bait and switch. Just got done re-reading the law and to the letter of the law they are wrong.

Case in point. The ad cleary states ALL PNY cards. Not some, not limited quantities, not in certain areas. The ONLY limitation upon the ad is a timeline of up to 7/3/04.

The PNY 6800 cards are clearly listed on their website as products FOR SALE. They are even listed as out of stock. As such that implies a rain check MUST be issued by the bait&switch laws inacted in all 50 states. Some states are more strict and others less strict by having certain exceptions. My state is pretty severe when it comes to this.

A company even MENTIONING they do not offer rainchecks on out of stock items is liable for a fine where I'm at.

I think I'm about to head over to CompUSSR this afternoon and present to them the law as written in my state along with a print out from the website. I've been lied to long enough. They made the offer and the advertisement, I don't care if they lose their asses off over this, that is THEIR problem and not mine. You can't renig on a bet and you can't renig on an offer.

well I just got off the phone with customer service after calling 1-800-crapusa (266-7872) and informed them of this illegal practice AFTER being told again they do not offer rain checks. I told them no where does it state in the ad limited quantities so I MUST be issued a raincheck or backorder for the item by the LAW in my state. I also had just got off the phone with the consumer watch group for texas and who's information can be found at this website

http://www.consumersunion.org/aboutcu/contact.htm#TX

I basically told them, yes you will issue me a back order. The item IS advertised for sale, even if it is listed out of stock, on your website. You Sunday ad says ALL PNY graphic cards will recieve a 30% discount for the duration of the advertisement. This got their attention and I got to speak with a CSR manager, for whatever it was worth. I recieved a Case nuber 1-75571539 for my trouble and was notified it will be resolved in 48 hours. If in 48 hours I have not recieved the card for the specified amount or a rain check I will be taking more drastic measures.

By the law this is deceptive advertising and bait&switch practices. If need be, I will show up on the doorstep with a lawyer and a cop ready to write a ticket to the store. Done it before and I'll do it again.

It's not my fault they neither wrote down limited stock/quanities/locations nor an exclusion for brand new products. Those that are rolling over on this issue should grow some back bone and show compusa they can't pull crap like this.

I live in southern california near the anahiem and fullerton stores. Both stores show as coming soon. Should I go down to fullerton and see if they will honor it? I have read elsewhere that some stores in so cal are calling people who have preordered and telling them that they have to return the product and refund their money.
