If you check compusa site you'll see that while both of these
video cards are not in stocks currently, the x800-xtpe shows estimated arrival
date of aug 1st, while the ultra just shows backordered without an arrival date.
I think this estimate is trustworthy since their estimate for the 6800 gt was accurate.

So even though I don't really give a flying fvck when you'll get your card, I think
there's a good chance mine will be here in about 2 weeks.

Back to topic, I called the my local CompUSA and, even though the site says OOS, the person I talked to said the Ultra orders have been shipped, and they may well be in tomorrow (7.17.04)! He also said that most likely they will be in stock next week. Course I take this with a grain of salt, but that dosen't mean I'm not crossing my fingers...

It's by no means a cool card. A lot of users are running these at ultra specs are reporting mid 80 C temps under load.

Probably just Google. They send out spiders over the web, don't you know. They usually try to do it only late at night, so that they don't disturb people, but you must have been up late enough to notice.

I hear that if you buy a robot and set it up, it keeps Google from "spidering" your PC. I would make sure that the robot is equipped with missile launchers and flamethrowers, though, no telling how big those spiders can get, or how many. Well, since this thread is still 'virtually' alive, I'll just quickly let you all know that I called CompUSA and they told me to expect the Ultra's on Thursday. Don't ask me where they come up with that, suffice it to say that I'm not getting my hopes up anymore. Oh, and I asked them how many Ultra's they had on preorder at my store and they said 7. Here's hoping that I'm one of the first in line...

My ultra runs at 75C but I think it's from being so close to those CPU furnaces, which are both running at 64C under full load. MB temps show 45C. Tonight I have to cut two 120mm holes right over the Ultra and the CPUs to get some more air in there. The case is breathing fire out the power supply and exhaust fans, but Far Cry is smooth as buttah. I turned it off until I get the fans installed.

How's the gonna work since the 6800GT is already running it a tad faster than the x800xt pe and will jump up another 20-30% once the 1.2 patch that supports PS 3.0 and FP32 comes out this week?

ATI is currently playing catchup with Nvidia since NV has made an apparent deal with the devil to get every developer and their mom to support PS 3.0 in new games and patches, when like 2 months ago everyone was talking about how PS 3.0 wouldn't matter for another 2 years.

Not that I'm complaining...of course I have a 6800GT, so I won't need to .

I haven't seen any benchmarks that put the 6800GT ahead of the XT PE. I have seen the 6800 Ultra and Ultra Extreme beat the XT PE on a few benchmarks, but it has never been a runaway for either card. Tomshardware already tested the 1.2 patch with PS 3.0 and that only brought the Ultras up to TIE the XT PE. So where are you seeing the GT being touted as faster than the XT PE?

For the record, I had an XT PE on preorder but couldn't get any ATI cards to work with my dual Opteron setup. I canceled that order and went ahead and purchased a 6800 Ultra instead.

Update:

Someone over at HardOCP's forum reports a store in TX receiving their Ultra shipment. With the GT, that was the pattern, TX first then other stores across the country within a week depending on proximity.

But with the Ultra shortage, no one knows if there are enough for all the stores or what, but the TX store reportedly got 18.
