Was able to pickup my prepaid GT today in Houston. I thought for sure last week I would never see this card after all the post about stores claiming they will never get the card. Amazing the difference a week makes.

So far the card rocks but it was a bitch to get in my case. I had to move my hard drives because the ide cables were blocking the power connector. This is one long card; at least 1.5 inches longer than my 9700. Everybody else who got in on this deal stick in there, they're coming.

I just picked up one of the two GT's they have at the Mission Viejo store here in SoCal. Does anyone know how loud these puppies are? I'm definitely into QUIET, so if it sounds like a hoover it's going back - no matter how much I can OC it.

Well it is not loud. I have a Volcano set at medium-low speed and can't hear the fan of the 5900 over it. It is very long and will almost hit the IDE cables on an NF-7s. I also had to move a hard drive to get it in. No problems with heat...with a modest overclock so far it idles at 52-53 and went up to 60 playing FarCry.

what does your store's 2 year warranty entail?

i ask because i just called up my local compusa manager and told him how my order was canceled back in the day because the card would take an "indefinite" amount of time to come out, yet they had it as of a few days ago, and he's trying to hook me up.

Try minnetonka again, it just depends on what manager is on. I was there around 2:30 today and I got it with absolutely no hassle at all.

Just curious have u heard anything more about whenm the minnetonka store is getting them in?

I got an order in at the Minnetonka store, and haven't heard anything from them yet...

Just got back from the minnetonka store, the GT's are in. Looked like they only have 2 or 3 more though.

Are they filling the prebuys from that stock, or is that 2 or 3 more on the shelf? Are they not calling to confirm the prebuys?

I never got a call I just walked in, and they gave me one off the shelf. I wouldn't wait for a call either, they couldn't even find my pre-pay paperwork.

Basically the TAP warranty through CompUSA goes above and beyond the manufacturer warranty by not only covering manufacturer defects, but also any accidental or physical damage that may occur to the card. If I drop it, break it, step on it, snap it when installing, overclock it too much and fry it, or whatever, I just take it back and get a brand new 6800GT off the shelf. Right now I'm running 435/1160 on mine (up from stock 350/1000 GT & 400/1100 Ultra speeds). It's freaking sweeeeeeeeeeeet!

Also, it costs 27.99 for the one year and 44.99 for the two year and if you go back in and they no longer sell the 6800GT anymore, you get whatever card that replaces it. Maybe an Ultra, maybe the 7xxx whatever, just depends on how the card's status is at that time and whether or not the store has a GT instock.

good to hear man, a lot of people balk at any in-store warranties, but I think that they are sweet! Can't really tell ya how good they are, you have to find out for yourself ya know! Enjoy your card, whichever you end up getting!

I visited a store today, and two managers today had an answer on the PNY 6800 Ultras in like 2 minutes for me.

There are 25 on order, 28 prepaid in the CompUSA system.

I don't know but I assume that means nationwide. If that is true not many people actually got in on this. I am beginning to think not many got in on the GT nationwide either.

They have NOT been shipped to CompUSA and they are telling me very likely the beginning of next week sometime.

Please don't PM me to death for the store or manager names. They were very polite and prompt.

I did order one prepaid.

Though since I hear this thing whines worse than a vaccum cleaner, I am not sure I will keep it.

I see alot of people getting the GT and overclocking it. Hmmmmm <scratches head in thought>

Thanks for the update LotusNotesGuy, I too got the Ultra on preorder. I'm not too worried about noise, though, as Koolance has a waterblock that's just the right flavor...

Edit:

I picked up the 6800gt and it doesn't support anything over 1600x1200 on the flat panel, so i had to return it. Funny how my server has a 5200 ultra, and my mac has 5200 and they both supprt the apple 23" cinema display

We have the GT on demo on a Cinema Display at my store and it works on it just fine... I wonder what the difference is. Did you try different drivers?

Edit:

Also make sure you have two slots ready and 500W PSU and heavy duty cooling.
I heard the ultras will not be in stock until next month, possibly september.
Good luck waiting for your PnY part.

Is this deal still on? if so until how long?

From my understanding you have to preorder the card to receive the discount? Or can you just walk in and buy any PNY card (but I am assuming since there are sold out that is why you have to pre-order? but the initial deal meant you could buy at 30% off "in-store"?)
I am thinking of picking up a GT and wondering if i can still do so and if the store applies the discount or you have to mail in a rebate to PNY?

FYI, Provantage has the GT on sale for $334.15, and expects shipment in 12 days. Not as good as $303, but decent. Link

the deal is dead - at this point, compusa is simply sending out the cards that they owe. my case is a bit special - my order was canceled on 7/1 (according to the person i talked to, it was because they had no ETA on the card and were asked to cancel all orders, which sure smells like a lie to me), but i called them up yesterday (after seeing the card was now in and being shipped) and asked if i could get it at the price i originally bought it. it looks like they're finally going to honor it.

Did you buy the PNY one or the BFG one? I read about the BFG problem at 16x12 but I have seen nothing on the PNY card having problems.

Has anyone seen or heard of issues with the nvidia 6800 ultra using a 23" cinema screen(1600x1200).
I want to order one of the new Apple DVI based screens but won't if there are issues.

Any help would be great

Nick
