EDITED: 5/13/03

I got an "Unadvertised Specials" email from Staples for their Bourbonnais, IL store. I don't know if this is nationwide. CONFIRMED NATIONWIDE! Also available online.

From May 11th to May 18th.

Warm: YMMV 80GB 8MB Maxtor Hard drive at Staples for $80 B&M

$119.98 - $10 instant savings - $30 mail-in rebate = $79.94 #499949

Maxtor is also offering a $30 rebate from May 11 to May 17. Rumor has it that there is also a $20 coupon floating around somewhere

$119.98
- 10
- 30 Staples MIR
- 30 Maxtor MIR
- 20 off $100 Staples coupon B&M or online?
------------------------------

$ 29.98 TOTAL?!?!?!

Feel free to add coupons or whatever if you can.

Thanks to those who contributed to this thread. I haven't tried this deal myself, so buyer beware.

Anyone know the link of the rebate? I found the same thing for my local store, but theres not a link for a rebate. Is this something that would be given in store?

It is available online too, and you can use $20 off $100 coupon to make it $60 for a 80G harddrive. Not particularly hot, but I may go for this one, as it is in Staples - which means easy and hassle-free.

I think there are two rebates for this one again also. One from Maxtor and one from Staples (according to someone on FW).

Here goes:

DrivePrice: $109.94
Coupon: $89.94
Tax (6%): $95.34
Rebate 1:$30.00
Rebate 2:$30.00
Total with Tax AR: $35.34

Not a bad deal.

Please note: Both rebate require the original UPC, but Staples might accept a copy. Even though I don't need this drive, I will try calling and see if they will accept a copy of the UPC.

Good luck people. I got mine last round. Rebates are good for purchases up to the May 17th.

EDIT: 2nd rebate link now working...

Haven't the $20 off $100 codes expired now? Am I missing them?

Edit: Sorry, just wasn't finding it in the normal places... found one still active now.

Yes, SliderNMFD, what did you find out about the UPC copy? Will Stapes take a copy of the UPC?

Thanks for the links and the info!

I e-mailed the center handling the rebates (www.rebateshq.com) about that issue and received the following:

Dear:

Thank you for your rebate inquiry. We realize that both the manufacturer
and Staples are offering a rebate for the same product and that
both are requesting an original UPC and receipt. We apologize
for the confusion.

Please submit the original UPC barcode and receipt to the manufacturer,
and submit a copy of the UPC barcode and receipt to Staples in
a separate envelope.

For your records, be sure to make copies of your submissions
before placing them in the mail.

We appreciate your participation in this promotion. If there
is anything else we can do to assist you, please contact us at
Staples.rebates@parago.com. We are always happy to help. You
can also register your rebate online and track its status at
www.StaplesRebates.com.

Sounds good to me. Hopefully they both go through. Just ordered one and they appear to still be in stock

This post is all over FW and other sites. I'm in on this one as well as every HOT hard drive deal. With the two rebates this is smokin.

What I can't figure is FW has pages of posts and AT has nothin' on this hard drive deal.
It seems to me that FW readership is generally better paid and better able to finance these deals. Whereas AT'ers are more educated, but less able to afford the deals. Gotta tell my children to stick to the sciences and liberal arts, and stay away from computer fields if they want to make a substantial salary.

Maybe you have it the wrong way. AT'ers are better able to afford stuff, and don't need as many Hot Deals.

Me <-- needs hot deals

Well, i think FWers actually repeat theirselves a lot compared to people on AT that actually read what is happening before they post something...

Yes, I've done it before. At chubbywallet people have emailed/called RebatesHQ (the rebate company) and have stated that BOTH rebates are valid. I'll enclose a copy of an email reply:

Dear xxxx:

Thank you for your rebate inquiry. We have received your email
and as per your rebate inquiry, both the rebates are valid and
Staples will accept the copy of the upc barcode.

We appreciate your participation in this promotion. If there
is anything else we can do to assist you, please contact us at
Staples.rebates@parago.com. We are always happy to help.

You can also track the status of your rebate, using the Rebate
ID above, at www.StaplesRebates.com.

Both those rebates are the same, one is the printable Maxtor rebate, the other is the Staples online rebate, you can only use one, but the deal is good for 59.99+ tax on 79.99

definatly YMMV on getting both rebates.

I went ahead and ordered it online using FW's coupon code.

$109.94
-$20 coupon
-$30 mir from staples *they will except the copy of the UPC
-$30 mir from maxtor *I'll send them the original UPC

Total= $29.94

(what's wierd is staples didn't charge me tax, I'm in Cali)

**Nevermind they just sent me an email with the final price of $97.36. That's a little shady to me but what ever.
