That's not exactly true. You are not obligated to pay for something that was shipped unsolicited but you cannot keep it if it was sent to you in error and the vendor notifies of the error you in a timely manner -- so they should put the two disks by the door and give them to the Staples driver when he comes to collect them.

I did this deal back in april and sent the upc to maxtor and copy to staples. I checked both rebates online and both say they are valid and should be mailed in 30days.

Just checked my rebate status at rebatestatus.com, and it says my rebate is invalid for not sending original UPC. I dont know if this rebate is for the Maxtor or teh Staples one i sent in. Any ideas on what i should do to make sure they honor the rebate?? thanks

RebatesHQ only has one $30 rebate on file for me. It's the one addressed to Staples Offer 03-57316. This leads me to believe that there is only one rebate for this deal. Oh well--win some, lose some. I'll spend $30 less on booze this month

sent them an email stating my problem, and within half on hour i got a response and they said they fixed to problem. We'll have to wait and see about that, but at least it was quick customer service.

update: seems like Staples aint sending out the second rebate(copy of the UPC). Check your rebate status at Here Some people reported that they are senting out rejection post cards.

I'll check my mail tonite.

If there are people getting rejected because they applied for two rebates and followed all the rules with the exception of sending in the "copy" for the second UPC, it's Staples that has the problem. It was verified by two CSRs and a call to Parago/rebatesHQ (the fulfillment house) that the original would go to the manufacturer and the copy to Staples. There has been precedence for this on other products sold by Staples and Staples stated the same in the past, "the copy will go to Staples." Additionally, there were two separate offer numbers. That's what the rebate people relied to state that these were two separate "contracts" for $30.

Then, after the 14 day refund policy is past, Staples says that there is no second valid rebate? Staples is going to be wrong if they deny these, and they should inform Parago/rebatesHQ to start fulfilling them, right now! Yes, right now!

To those of you who're giving up, I'm going to start a service and get these denied rebates for you for a fee of course. Otherwise, pursue your claim with vigor and be your own advocate.

I got a rejection postcard after I had sent an e-mail and the status now says Postcard which is the rejection - i got this message from them also when they said they validated it and it showed up validated -

Update: My submission of the STAPLES rebate (promotion no. 03-57316) was validated over the phone after it showed up as invalid because of missing original UPC. This happened around June 1. At that time, I asked about the Maxtor rebate, which IS a separate promotion (03-57312). Rep told me that information was just entered into their system and to call back after a week. I called today (three times) and talked to two reps and one supervisor. All told me the same - there was no information about the Maxtor promotion (when you call, make sure to give that number) in their system. They told me to send copies of my submission to their Rebate Resubmissions department. I also send an email today and receive the information that "We apologize, but there were
some technical difficulties that delayed the processing of that
promotion. You should hear about your submission in the next
30 days." - I don't trust them here. We need to keep calling and pestering them about this. Has ANYONE got the MAXTOR rebate validation (remember, for 03-57316)?

Ugh.... Mine is invalid also.... Can anyone post the email address that I should send my complaint to? I can only find actual Street Addresses on RebateHQ's site....

PS... I havent heard anything about the Maxtor rebate either... and thats the one that I sent the original UPC to.... and this deal looked so good on paper... any lawyers out there? Can they do this to us?

I got the same story about promotion 03-57312. The receipt deadline for that one is June 23 so I figure the submissions will appear at the web site around then. I strongly suspect that a marketing type at Maxtor messed up and posted the same promotion under two different numbers. It doesn't matter though, if they didn't mean to honor it, they should have pulled the form from the web site.

Just got an e-mail from Henly at Promotions Customer Service, validating my rebate. Filling out that form online after getting my rejection postcard was definitely the right move. $21 80GB drive secured!

To me it looks like maxtor is the one at fault since staples didn't post the maxtor rebate in their flyer.

I'm gald I've kept copies of everything!

I got my staples one denied. I just forwarded them a copy of the email I had where I asked if they would take a copy. I think someone posted theirs on here. They promptly changed the status from invalid to "Processing." 2 of my friends used my email message (with my address still on it) to validate theirs as well.

My Staples $30 rebate shows up fine even with the copy of the UPC submitted (I did attach a printout of the email saying a copy was OK), but still no status showing for the $30 Maxtor rebate (they were both mailed the same day). Does ANYONE have their Maxtor $30 rebate (03-57312) showing up online?

Has anyone received any information about the Maxtor rebate? Has anyone been notified about the rebate from Maxtor (#03-57312)?

I checked my Staples rebate and it said my rebate is invalid for not sending original UPC. I called and got that straightened out and that rebate is now showing processing at www.rebateshq.com site (offer #03-57316).

The rebate from Maxtor does not show up at www.rebateshq.com and when I check at Maxtor for my rebate status, I get redirected to the www.rebateshq.com site. They are also the ones handling the rebate for Staples too (offer # 03-57316) along with the Maxtor rebate (offer #03-57312). There is no information about them receiving the Maxtor rebate and I sent both rebates in at the same time. Should it have shown up by now as being processed like the Staples rebate is?

How do you tell what rebate is for what promotion code?

I keep getting confused on whether I'm missing the staples $30 or the maxtor $30.

I had to fax in my Maxtor rebate as it never showed up on Rebateshq.com. It soon showed up and showed as being valid and "processing," but now I just checked it and it says that its invalid!

I knew I should have just stuck with the Western Digital 80GB for $39.95 (AR) from Office Max that I originally bought before this "deal" came up.

My experience has been lately... that you will receive a card in the mail with some lame a$$ excuse why they are declining your rebate. When you call them, they get off the phone and quickly come back on and say everything is now fine, they "fixed" the problem.

It is complete BS as they know the odds of anyone actually calling them on it are slim. It is a ploy to try to get out of paying the rebates. It will all likely stop soon.. as they are obviously defrauding the public with these rebates these days. Someone will step up to the plate and pass some new laws with regard to rebates. It is way past due.

I generally just wait for my card to come in the mail with the lame excuse as to why the rebate can not be honored, then make my phone call to play their game. It is a hassle for sure. I might try going to the website and taking care of several at a time via emails.
