If XFX's OC'ing and double-lifetime warranty warrants $25-30 more for you, then the XFX is the better choice.

I don't believe MSI have the best warranties, it's no EVGA or XFX. I know of an MSI gaming laptop that puts a warranty sticker over the hard drive and RAM panels, so they don't allow you to carry out your own upgrades! :[

yeah, I noticed the shipping disclaimer. everything is taking a while to ship right now anyway, however. it took me 5 days to get my 3870 from newegg!!

but 2 weeks from now the new G92 based GTS will be out... the 256MB GT might be available, and AMD is going to slash prices on the 38xx line...

Preordering in such a situation is not something I would rather do... I did not buy the card on 6am the day it came out... which was a good idea... but since I already waited for the promising price reduction I might aswell wait a bit more.

If you are only going for GT performance I highily doubt these cards will drop much below this mark wether AMD drops prices or not. The new GTS's are suppose to cost quite a bit more from what I have heard.

bah... f it... I just went ahead and ordered one... 225$ shipped is 15$ less then I would have gotten if I would have gotten if I ordered it on 6AM the day it came out... which I probably should have... live and learn. And if the new GTS comes out before they ship this and is 300 dollars and blows it out of the water... i will cancel my ordered and get it instead... At least I am on the queue.

I think it will btw... that is probably why so many places are selling those cards with a "no returns" policy.

Dang. I've been checking that thread and this must be very recent info because I just ordered an XFX 8800GT from Buy.com. The list price was 278.99 and I signed up for their sharky credit card to get the 30 dollars off which brought it down to 255.88 with shipping.

I'm still not sure if they have them in stock. My order status just says that an invoice has been sent to the warehouse for the item. No one might actually check if that invoice can be filled until monday most likely.

And yeah- I googled up all the buy.com horror stories and tales of nightmare indian based customer non-service in the frequent event that something goes wrong. I went ahead and pulled the trigger anyway. That's how badly I want one of these damn cards... but I was adamant about not paying more than 250 for one. Figured 255.88 was the closest I was likely to get for a while with the holidays here and strong demand.

Do let us know how this pans out.

Hell I just paid 302 for an evga superclocked 8800gt for my son so I could get his machine back up after his 6800gt gave up the ghost. So for just a little over $100 more I get two cards from dell...sweet. I just hope that they don't turn all greedy and cancel everybodies orders.

The extra money is worth it for the XFX imo. So i wouldn't worry about it.
