it is in production because it is CHRISTMAS...

I went to frys exactly 32 days before christmas... the store was packed. They were sold out on HALF their video cards. The only 8 series cards they had were 3 boxes of 8800GTS... they were sold out on GT, Ultra, GTX, 8600, 8400.... they had absolutely nothing.
They also sold out of Wii, and the speakers I wanted...

Also any delivery sent right now through UPS is delayed due to the christmas rush...

Dell ran out of stock on those cards a few days ago and took them down... (it was saying "item not available" and didn't let you order) now they have more in stock and they are listed again... but it will still take 2 weeks to send them out and a week to deliver...

PS. Mine will ship out on 12/10/07...

I don't think it is even done by a person... Dell products will have a 10%-20% off on dell.com for 3 weeks, then go 2 weeks without, then get another discount...

Its like that on all products really. Its dell way of selling direct below the price of their distributes. If you want a dell monitor do NOT buy it without a discount. wait 2 weeks and buy it direct from dell with a discount...

And yea, the discount is over on both the 3870 and both 8800GT models they had

I actually ordered one earlier in the day--I simply couldn't resist this card for $220 shipped.

However, buyer beware, as mentioned previously, my sales agent confirmed that they do not have stock on these right now. The estimated shipping date they gave me was 12/13.

65 nm technology
Compared to the previous MSI 8800 Series, the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC comes with the advanced 65nm wafering technology. This technology increased the stream processors inside from 96 to 112 units compared to the former NVIDIA 8800 GPU. Not only the performance of the graphic card has improved, this technology effectively reduces heat. The MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC is a single slot fan solution, combined with the 65nm technology this graphic card is a low noise solution.

PCI Express 2.0 interface supported
MSI takes the lead in launching the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC with PCI Express 2.0 support to meet the demands for higher data throughput of future graphics computing. PCI Express 2.0 provides two times the bandwidth compared to the previous generation. The MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC is backwards compatible with the current PCI Express generation. ?New generation graphic cards should only support 3D acceleration for game titles but also enhance the capability of HD video or movie content playback,? said Vincent Lai, MSI Marketing director. ?From the last generation GeForce® 8800 GPU support PureVideoTM video acceleration technology, we are very glad to see the latest MSI NX8800GT Series fully supports NVIDIA® PureVideoTM HD technology, and thanks to NVIDIA brings this great tech to the high-end GPU product line.?

MSI Game Bundle
The MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC is bundled with not one but two dynamic and popular games; ?Dirt? and ?The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar?. Experience the great looking tracks and cars in the spectacular game ?DiRT?. This game was rated with a score of 8.4 by the well known gaming website www.ign.com. Or experience the magical world of ??The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar? free online version for one month. This game was rated with a score of 8.3 by www.gamespot.com. ?The game's greatest asset is that there's simply so much to do.?

Shader OC
The MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC is equipped with unified shader processing unit (Stream Processors) to simultaneously handle 3D modeling/pixel rendering in a more flexible way. These Stream Processors execute instructions and mapping textures at about two times the default GPU core clock. If the ratio of the Stream Processor clock (Shader Clock) is raised over the GPU core clock, the performance of the graphic card can be boosted without generating too much heat.

NVIDIA PureVideo2 Technology
To deliver the ultimate HD movie experience when playing Blu-ray and HD-DVD NVIDIA developed PureVideo2 Technology. With this technology the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC delivers superb picture quality for all video formats as well as stunning HD DVD and Blu-Ray movies with low CPU utilization and using less power consumption.

Damn it says will ship on Dec 12th....

too much time for me...
In that case I should just wait for the new 8800GTS to be out...
(10th) and THEN make a decision.

It was worth the gamble for 100 less but considering that some are selling WITH Crysis or Quake Wars, it comes down to $50 in savings. $50 is nothing. It's me eating shiz @ work for a few hours.

That means they are out of stock and they forget to close the buy now link. I am pretty sure Dell would be like "OMG... we have 10K order :*( "

Looks like Dell raised the prices on the MSI 8800GT! Congrats to those who quickly ordered the 8800GTs were well priced!

MSI 8800GT: $260

Now there's even better reason to skip on the MSI 8800GT's lackluster warranty for the XFX's better overclocking support and warranties.

Heh thanks again, my order got saved! For some reason I 'forgot' to enter in the CVN number when I ordered on Monday. I had to cancel the order. You saved my life with that EPP link  So only students with an account linked to an educational institution are able to get it? Good thing I registered my account with my university

As I said in the Hot Deals forum- watch, come Dec 12th as Dell sends out the delay notices, there will be screams of "Bloody Mudrder!" and "Class action lawsuit!".

There is no way in hell thousands of people are getting their $200 MSI 8800GT boards shipped by Dec 12th.

Well if they don't ship the gt's and the new gts's become available at a reasonable price then many will switch their orders out. I'll sure be tempted to do it or maybe just wait for the new nvidia cards in Jan.

they didn't up the price, they just ended the 50$ discount on all video cards... they had that 50$ discount for the 3870 aswell... Both ended at the same time. It is part of dell's policy to undercut its resellers, they are really time limited discounts that shuffle all the time. Basically it is two weeks of discount, two weeks without. Never buy ANYTHING on dell.com if it doesn't have a discount, it will get one within a week or two. I shop there all the time and its really nice getting all those discounts.

OOS @ The Egg

Reading the Egg's reviews has made me worry about the heating issue with these types of cards.
Wouldn't you new buyers?

Yes I've seen several articles mention the heat being produced by these cards however once you adjust the fan speed it will cool down. My case has excess cooling available so heat will get exhausted rapidly while I play my games. Rivatuner will keep my vga fans blowing as they should and if it doesn't work right then I'll use ntune. I'm also reading up on aftermarket cooling solutions just in case the stock solution doesn't pan out.

I'm thinking about upgrading the cooling solution as well, a Zalman VF1000 should be the very-top-end type of cooler I'm looking at. Any other recommendations? Preferably Zalman, they're pretty consistent with their products being of high quality and relatively quiet.

I'll be using Antec's PCI intake blower in my Sonata 1 case to help with the temps, so basically I'm using 3 slots for the video card. Not like I need all 7 slots anyways... only 2.

I'm not so sure. I think most people purchasing the 8800GT are savy enough to realize that the 8800GTS cost/performance wise won't be worth the extra money. At least the initial numbers look that way.
