In fairness to Dell, they did list "Usually ships in 1-2 weeks." They didn't say it was in stock when you bought it.
I totally agree it was clearly stated so no reason to complain now....

Sure, they say 1-2 weeks. My revised ship date was 4.5 weeks later, and slightly re-revised to 3.75 weeks later. I didn't have a problem with 2 weeks, i do have a problem with it saying 2 weeks and having it turn out to be 4. Now if this is because nvidia is changing the fan, that's out of dell's control, but they didn't do too much to explain anything to me other than say 'since it's a 3rd party product it's out of their control'..

They said, "Usually ships 1-2 weeks." Not, "Will ship in 1-2 weeks." When you agree to purchase something with that conditional phrase, you are at their mercy.

They gave people an estimate that some people did get met, and some didn't. And it does seem to be out of dell's control - nobody else has this card in stock either. Not trying to come across as a dell fanboy, but I don't think they deserve to get beat up like they have in some of these posts. It's both NVIDIA and ATI that deserve the blame.

Not only are you a noob (2 days) but you sound like a d-ick. You also make up ideas and lies and pass them off as facts. For example, "nobody else has this card in stock either" and outright lie. Here you can see newegg.com has the MSI card in stock and ready to ship http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814127311

Not only does newegg have the card in stock but zipzoomfly.com also has the card in stock. I won't say everyone has the MSI card in stock but Dell, becuase that would sound presumptious. Have a look for yourself. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...p?ProductCode=10007156

I think Captain Coors has had one too many when he wrote his Dell fanboy comments. There is a reason that Dell's market share has been shrinking over the last 2-3 years. Their customer service sucks and they do not deliver computers or graphics cards in a timely manner. Neither newegg nor zipzoomfly sell merchandise that they do not have in stock. What kind of business practice is this? I feel like I'm buying from a pawn shop.

Dell not only deserves their beating but Michael Dell and his accountants who routinely cook their books deserve 50 lashes each. On second thought, make it 100 lashes for Captain Coors drunk and totally inaccurate comments.

Does anybody see it differently or are you guys waiting on your cards with me on my opinion of Dell's business practice?

Agreed that there are cards in stock currently. However, around Thankgiving when many people bought these cards from Dell, vendors were out of stock. If a card was available, it was for that day only. I was referring to cards ordered at that timespan and whether its fair that they are delayed past the suggested 1-2 week shipping time. We don't know what's going to happen with cards ordered right now. They will probably be late like the others.

I agree newegg and zipzoomfly don't sell products that aren't in stock. Fairly obvious by the face they say "say out of stock" on items. Dell didn't claim this was in stock. They still don't.

Debating Dell's business practice is another topic altogether. My original posts were just to point out that they did not misrepresent themselves. I would agree with you that Dell's practice is frustrating to the consumer. So don't buy from a vendor that does it.

placed my order on 11/24 still shows a ship date of 12/10.
8800GT OC for $201.75, I think I can wait a little longer. If it does not ship on 12/10 then I will call dell and they will upgrade the shipping to next day (always have in the past for me).

I did call twice the other day and they didn't offer to update my shipping at all. Not that it matters, if it comes from them, it'll probably be overnight anyhow, dallas to me is a 4 hour drive so there's no reason for a long ship time.

FWIW, i didn't bad mouth dell. I generally like dell. I just pointed out that it said 1-2 weeks and i was at about 4 weeks. I do understand it says 'usually', but seriously, how can you use the term usually for something you've barely ever sold? Usually also implies that it can be sooner, and that rarely it's longer than that. I do understand it's out of their control and other than beg the vendor, they're pretty much in the same boat I am. Not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things. The fact I can't rebuild my new machine with the new hd, mb, and ps i bought because I don't have a video card for PCIe is what sucks. I told them that as well and all they did was offer to check with the vendor and see if they could expedite shipping - which i seriously doubt they'll do.

What actually did bug me is that both guys I spoke too were in/from India. I do remember dell shipping their support overseas like that, then getting flat out hammered in all the satisfaction polls the following year. They then claimed they were stopping that and would do their support here. Apparently simple customer service is still outsourced to India...The guys were nice enough, but didn't know what they were working with. "I see you buy a gee eee force eight eight zero zero five one two emm bee...." - and i can't remember what he called it, but it wasn't a video/graphics card. It was something weird. I'm looking at my item decscription from my email and it flatly says graphics card. I think when you work for a COMPUTER company, it isn't too much to expect everyone dealing with the public to know 512 MB = five hundred and twelve megabytes. I get my card and all my parts work great, i'll be happy. I was just wanting to have it all done before xmas and that's not looking too likely. Me personally, if it's my store, i'd want to keep my customers informed. If I KNOW for a fact what you ordered isn't going to be able to be shipped until 12/19, I should inform you of that and not leave your online account reflecting 12/11 when I know it isn't going to happen. If they adjusted my ship date when they knew, i wouldn't be upset. The fact they know, and have known at least a week and said nothing, and I had to call to find out is bad.

Dell's outsourced customer service is like a lottery; when I lost my XP disk and had to call their customer service about getting a replacement, the first guy I had was a jerk about it, so I hung up and called again. Second time around I got a really nice lady who not only set it up no questions asked, but also threw expedited shipping on the disk, all at no charge to me. To top it off, she called back twice over the course of events, once just to confirm it was in the mail, and the second time a week later to make sure everything installed just fine.

Can somebody name one other etailer that sells merchandise that they don't have on hand? Usually ships in 1-2 weeks doesn't mean, sorry we're out of stock but plan to have the item back in stock within 1-2 weeks so we will take your money and ship the product when we receive it.

I would think Dell would be one of the first on the list to receive the 8800gt simply because of the size and purchasing power Dell has. It doesn't sound like any of the early buyers 11/24 and earlier have received shipping confirmation emails.

Actually dell hasn't charged my card and won't until they ship the product. I believe that since dell is doing so much business that the suppliers will take that into consideration when they divy up the available cards. Even if they do ship a little later it's the holidays so all shipping is delayed and they've got the best price on a desirable product.

I ordered on the 24th, and the ship date is well...today. Nothing yet, and I'm not too hopeful. Oh well.

Anybody who gets a 8800gt shipped confirmation from Dell, please post the ship date and when you originally ordered your card.

This is the main reason I have no problem going to B&M and paying more so I don't have to deal with this crap. Fry's in Manhattan Beach, CA has like 30 or 40 of these cards ranging from 269-289 in price. I'd rather pay 269.99 and get it today than get dicked around by Dell for a few weeks.

I just checked my order and it still shows today but it hasn't shipped yet. I might just have to explore my other options if this keeps on getting delayed.

Just got another email from Dell that delivers the expected bad news...

ORDER DELAYED....

At Dell, our customers are our top priority and we regret when we are unable to ship our products by the original estimate provided. Although we anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay and have adjusted the estimated ship date as reflected below (see Revised Estimated Ship Date). We value your business and appreciate your patience.

Oh swell...
Mine was scheduled to be shipped today, btw.

While I was online with dell customer service I received the email stating my order has been delayed with a new ship date of 12-12. I'm not sure what I want to do now but will probably cancel if dell keeps on delaying the shipment.

What must Captain Coors be thinking about Dell now? It appears Dell operates their graphics card business the same way they manage their computer business. Little or no inventory on hand. They order inventory when they get orders. This minimizes money they have to put up for inventory increasing their bottom line. When vendors fail to deliver products overnight or on time, the customer suffers. Their business plan is brilliant! I have no idea how HP managed to take over Dell in computer sales so easily. Why is Dell free falling in computer sales?

well Dell sent me an email stating it should ship the 17th (my original ship date was today the 10th).

Went to Bestbuy today to pickup the BFG 8800GT for $210 (after 12% coupon) their website stated they were in-stock when I arrived I was told the website is always slow as far as stock goes they did not have any 8800GT's.

This sucks. maybe I will wait now and get one of the new 8800GTS unless they are as hard to find for a decent price.

Anbody have the 800 number to Dell customer service? I want to get my order upgraded to free overnight delivery. How long could this delay last? Are we talking days weeks or months?

I would not jump on the new 8800GTS. The latest reviews show the GTS is only better by less than 10%. I think the price will be significantly higher than the 8800gt.
