Be a little careful with the cancellations guys and girls. I called Dell twice in the last half hour to cancel my order. The first time the person I spoke to started asking me for things that he shouldn't have to ask for. These things included my Dell Preferred account number (could maybe see this, but it should be on the order), my social security number, and my mother's maiden name. I see absolutely no reason for him to need those last two. When I asked to speak to his manager, he told me that I would have to speak to someone at Dell Preferred and transferred me to an automated system.

I called back ten minutes later. The person I talked to this time cancelled my order without those three pieces of information. It could have been something innocent on the part of the first person, but it could have also been someone doing some freelance data mining.

When I cancelled I didn't have to provide anything other than my name and email address and confirm the order number. I've logged onto my account several times to make sure that the order was truly cancelled plus I've checked my cc to make sure that the dell holder has been removed.

I ordered on 11/29 and I was shocked to see that they shipped my card yesterday. I have DHL tracking number and have been following it to FL. Should be here tomorrow.

The weird thing is that they changed my order to an Evga 8800GT 512MB Superclocked! So not only am I getting an 8800GT at that great price but it will be an Evga with game. Pretty sweet deal.

I have no explanation for this but if I got this lucky maybe others will too.

You ordered 11/29 and you are getting a card before me? My order was placed 11/24, five days before you and they aren't doing anything for me. My temperature is starting to rise...

I think it depends on WHAT You ordered. People who ordered MSI cards after the 26th are getting their cards faster than those who ordered XFX cards on the 26th and prior. My XFX got the delayed email, too, showing 12/19.

Oh, did you get the upgraded 8800GT fan on your MSI 8800GT Goaty? The new fan has a larger diameter than the old one...just wondering if these new fans are already out on the market.

EDIT: asked the wrong person, whoops. -_-

I wasted 5000 AMEX rewards points for a $50 Dell gift card. I have to stick with this mess. I don't think it's fair or a good business practice for Dell to sell merchandise they do not have on hand. It has been known for years that Dell carries little or no hardware on hand while building their computers. They rely on their suppliers to deliver on short notice. Sometimes when Dell can't get the parts they need they purchase inferior stand in parts. This applies to only their custom built computer and not purchasing specific graphics cards.

Dell wasn't offering a fire sale for the MSI 8800gt. They simply discounted the card 20% off the MSRP just like all the other cards. It obviously appeared to be a fire sale considering the inflated prices of cards offered by other online merchants. It's clear that Dell has aplied the same business practice in sell graphics cards as they do in selling computers.

It's frustrating to see that both newegg.com and zipzoomfly.com both have the MSI 8800gt in stock. I didn't check any other retailers but the supply shortage of the 8800gt seems to be coming to an end.

Well, after watching Best Buys BFG 8800 GT listing they finally showed up in stock at a store about 20 miles away. I was able to get one for $224.20 after taxes (using a 10% off coupon) and after my credit card reward rebate, so I guess I'll be canceling my Dell order. I prefer BFG anyway. Now I just have to hope that it has the new 70 mm fan and an updated BIOS.

Well it's Friday PM, 8800gts installed along with crysis. Game plays at all high settings now my only problem is the sound cutting out on my x-fi fatal1y card. I just received a dell survey which I filled out expressing my dissatisfaction with them.

I canceled my order on wednesday and they just charged me anyways on Friday and shipped it. I'm annoyed since I already bought another card. Maybe I'll just throw it on ebay.

Picked up a BFG @ BB Sat morning for $225 OTD. Just canceled the MSI at Dell. And BTW, the BFG cards still have the old fan setup.

I know this is kind of a side step (Going back to an older GPU), but I called Dell. I had ordered 2 MSI cards, I inquired as to what the hold up was. He told me that they were out of stock and, actually, they were discontinuing carrying it!! (So right there, watch out!!!) I said, "What about my order then?"

He said that I could wait on the order and they would send me the next upgraded version (Probably the eVGA, or a GTS?), or I mentioned selling me an Ultra card for the $430 that I was spending on the GTs. He said ok, and I said DONE DEAL!!! So, I just got an eVGA 8800 Ultra for $430. I'll step up when the next GTX comes out (May be close)

It should be here tomorrow. (Ordered on Thu.)

Would treatening to cancel the order help? Does anybody think Dell will substitute another 8800gt for the out of stock MSI card?

I ordered the XFX 8800GT from Dell on 11-27 and it's still "In Production". I ordered the XFX 8800GT from Buy.com yesterday and it shipped the same day. Go figure.

Well, the XFX 8800GT queue at Dell just went down by one. So those of you still waiting are now one order closer to getting yours. Good luck!

Thanks Creig,
You ordered one day before me. That more me up one slot to 9743 on the list. Hope more people cancel their orders.

I think it's time I negotiate with Dell about sending me a substitution order. I can always use the threat to cancel my order if that is necessary.

Just to let you know. I called a week and a half ago and threatened to cancel my order and the rep, at least the one that I spoke to, had no problem cancelling. She didn't offer a consolation or anything. At that time I said that I'll wait a bit to see what happens. I ended up cancelling that one and getting an Ultra for $30 more than the two MSIs that I had on order.

But, yes, they will compensate you.

It's not just MSI 8800gt customers that got screwed, but anybody who ordered an 8800gt from Dell. In my home state of Washington, it's illegal to advertise merchandise that's out of stock or was never in stock. Even if they don't charge our credit cards until the product is shipped.
