I don't understand most of your post...

you bought the xfx GT but quickly canceled and bought the msi card in stead -- then what?

Pulled the trigger on the MSI one for $220.47, not in a particular rush either, as I shipped it to my home address and I won't be back 'till the 22nd. I <3 giving myself Christmas presents.

Was the xfx actually hot, and did you drop it on the floor?

I bought the MSI OC'd version just like everyone else, but I'm really worried about the heat and noise this card produces. There's a lot of talk going on about buying a third-part cooler. And according to a recent newegg review on this exact card:

Totally inadequate stock cooling + driver issues. With my side panel open at factory settings this card reached 90 degrees C under heavy load - artifacting and total system lockups soon followed. There have also been reports of other 8800gt's having similar problems.

Here's the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814127311

This is disappointing to say the least. In fact I'm planning on selling this and buying an HD3870, as I really don't need (nor want) all the extra power at the expense of more heat. Also the HD3870's are supposed to have really low power consumption when idle, which is nice.

I ordered my 8800gt as well. I applied my $50 AMEX membership rewards gift card. For those of you who don't have a job or money won't get this. My total cost was $172 with shipping.

I wouldn't take that newegg post to seriously, the guy is posting on Newegg.com without purchasing the card from newegg. That's trolling in my opinion. Why would somebody rate a product they didn't even buy from newegg?

The cooler on the MSI card is standard issue. I have not heard too many people complainj about cards artifacting because of heat.

I also don't get why the guy who posted above plans to sell his card once he gets it. Sounds like we've got a few gypsies here.

Anyway, it's a great deal even at $207+ tax.

Always take Newegg comments with a grain of salt, he probably didn't' adjust fan settings and it was stuck at 29%. My 8800GT is rather cool after adjusting a bit of fan settings in RivaTuner, to be honest.

Well it has been found out by calling Dell that they don't actually have these cards in stock and the customer service agent can't even tell when their next shipment will be. This is as good as getting a raincheck at bestbuy or auto-notify at newegg... lol. I'll wait thanks.

Even so dell is a high priority vendor so I'll bet that nvidia partners will give them more cards than other resellers.

It's too bad it doesn't come with something I'd actually consider playing, like Quake Wars, Crysis, the Half-Life Orange Box, or Unreal Tournament 3 (already own UT3, though).

This sucks, "In Production" until
Est. Ship Date: 12/12/2007
Est. Delivery Date: 12/17/2007-12/19/2007

Got the notify's that newegg has their cards in stock at Eye gouging prices as usual. I really wish that people would avoid them due to the pricing and shipping cost crap they pull.
