This is still an awesome deal even with no TRIM. You can always do tony trim on these drives every once in a while.

This is a great deal. Thanks OP!

Can anyone else with an Intel G1 confirm if their CDM benches (4K) vary between ~12-15 read and ~20/~40 write? I noticed that even with a consistent amount of free space, I see this variance. The lower write seems to occur after some use (i.e. 200MB-1GB downloads/installs); after letting the drive sit idle (after uninstalling the program or deleting the download) for a while (30 min or so), writes go back up to 40+ MB/s. I wonder if there is some sort of (undocumented) garbage collection going on with the G1s. I don't mean to start a discussion on a Deals thread, but if anyone else can confirm this, it might assuage the concerns of people on the fence.

For anyone concerned about degradation, I can say that the (large) sequential write speeds have been amazingly consistent (60-70MB/s), and far better than when the Indilinx drives first came out. Pre- GC/Trim, my Vertex plunged from 80-90MB/s sequential to 30MB/s within a week of use.

No TRIM on this right?

Trim this and Trim that...

Been using my X25-M G1 for 1 year now. Benches the same as it did day 1. Yes, the G2s are faster, but this is totally worth it. Hell, even for $40 more it would still be worth it.

KILLER deal. 1.825 dollars per GB. I got this forgot about bing cashback -_- so I'm down 4 bucks. Still worth every penny, I just won't eat out this week, gonna stick to instant noodles .

Gonna wait for a killer netbook deal, then slap this baby into the netbook for pure awesome. I think its gonna be another year or two before we see the mainstream drives dip down to 1.9 dollars per gb.

Great. Seems Newegg upped the starting price to $239.99. Final cost without Bing is now $209.99

Just great. I was going to wait and see what the shellshocker SSD deal was, then decide between the two. Seeing as the $115 40gb Intel is pretty meh, I was going to head over and possibly buy this. Now, no way.

You can try calling in and see if they'll still give you the deal. I've had Dell and Amazon do that for me before.

Make up some excuse that your internet went down as you were about to order or something.

Thats quite a newb move. What you should have done is get this first, then see what the shell shocker was. If the shell shocker is better, buy the shell shocker, cancel your order with newegg. If it already shipped, refuse shipment and cancel the order.

Btw, looks like the shell shocker is a crapper. 115 for a 40gb drive. The 80gb drives are going for 219 so its a bad deal.

the only thing shocking about Newegg's 40GB Intel SSD price today, is that it only now matches what Amazon charges for the drive everyday...

This drive is now 180 shipped. Still a half decent deal considering you supposedly get an enclosure with the kit.

Personally, given a choice between the G2 at 220 and this at 180, I'd choose this since price/gb is so critical.

Hmm... they lowered the price back down to $179.99 24 hours after the coupon expired. I bet the OP price was a mistake by newegg.

Good job for those who snuck in.

I'm wondering that as well. Either that or they did the traditional "ran out of marketing funds" switcheroo.

I'm still waiting for mine. Newegg used UPS Mail Innovations for the free shipping, so good luck to me on getting it anytime soon. :\

Mine says it shipped ($149.99 deal), but there is no tracking link. I heard these drives don't work with the TRIM feature in the Intel SSD Toolbox - However I've also heard that you can use CCleaner to wipe out the free space, and the drive will go back to full speed. I'm using this on Windows XP anyways, so don't care about TRIM.

I don't think that the wipe out feature in CCleaner is the correct wiper to use. I wondered about this myself since it calls it 'secure wipe'. But I believe it isn't the same as an 'ATA secure erase' which does restore performance.

If those who own this drive can attest that the Intel G1 does garbage collection, you may not need to do any wiping since it'll wipe itself. Also if it does do garbage collection you may not need TRIM either. TRIM will just delay the need for garbage collection at a later time. In both cases, to restore write perfomance, you'll need to do garbage collection or a secure wipe.

I have an interest since I ordered one of these. I'm coming from a Kingston V series Gen 1. The one with the fixed Jmicron controller. Despite all the bad press the 'broken' Jmircon has gotten. I loved how troublefree the 'fixed' one was. Performance NEVER degraded and partition alignment made no difference in benches (at least in win 7). That's how hard drives should be... plug it in and USE it, not babysit it.

If this Intel G1 does have internal garbage collection, then it needs no babysitting either.

Mine just arrived. I took it out of it's 2.5" case. It's Gen 1 and Intel all the way. 1.8" is pretty interesting. It uses the same SATA data cable and almost the same power cable. The 2.5" to 1.8" adapter converts the incoming 5v or 12v into 3.3v. The SATA data portion is straight through.

I left it 1.8" with the adapter but outside of the 2.5" case. Mounted it with some sticky putty-type mount inside my laptop firmly and ran it through it's paces. It's Intel all the way. It's fully detected as an Intel and not DANE. The Intel toolbox detects it and runs but doesn't does the Gen 2 stuff.

Benched performance over Kingston V series is what I expected. It spanked the Kingston with small writes, but the sequential writes are sometimes faster on the Kingston. Overall with a typical night's usage, It feels a little more responsive, but if no-one told me the HD was upgraded I wouldn't have noticed a difference or cared!

I also read the PcPers review about the 8820 G1 firmware released early last year which this drive comes with. Have no fear about defragmentation or lack of TRIM support. Just plug this drive in and use it. No babysitting is required. They punished the drive repeatedly and it always gracefully recovered quickly.

In the end, I wish I would have bought more.

Huh, I didn't know that about the 1.8" drives. Learn something new everyday!

That's good to know.

Alive again with $30 off code DANE80GMAR.

Thank you!
Now I will just have to refuse delivery on the 30gb OCZ drive. Was worried about the size anyway, and I really hate waiting for rebates.
Either that or I could keep it for my laptop...

I think they're getting rid of the G1s in preparation for the next generation 25nm drives. I think 1.5-1.8 $/gb will be standard in a year.

Who knew that Intel would be the one trying to push prices as low as possible. Without intel in the market, I think we would still be seeing $3gb/drives as the standard.

Anand had an article... IIRC 25nm will be at the end of this year or next year. Of course the 35nm G2 are out - the Intel version of the X18-M G2 was $290 and is currently on sale for $230. Trim or no trim, I'd rather get the $150 G1 especially since it comes with the adapter needed for use in a desktop.

Then again, sooner or later the 2.5" G2 will be available for under $200 again.

EDIT: Finally got mine! Ordered 2/26, received 3/6. Pretty slow for Newegg.

Anyone manage to fit their drives into their laptops? My adaptor is strange -_-.
