Costco has a deal like this for a 400gig Seagate SATA HDD that comes with a SATA converter or SATA controller card. So this baby will work with your old mobos.

With the inital batches of them when they were first released, there seemed to be issues with them, but as the months went on there were nothing but good things to be said about them.

Just got my drives in today (two 400GB, one 300GB SATA). I don't like how Outpost packs the stuff, basically in a box barely big enough to hold the retail boxes with a couple of air packs as filler on top with no packing material to cushion the retail boxes.

The retail boxes should be packing enough if it came to it. When these drives get shipped on pallets, they take a beating from the reach trucks, loading and unloading them, bumping into things, etc.

Doesn't hurt to package them up well though. If I was shipping the items, they'd have a lot more packaging around them.

The one I got was also a 7200.9, but the warranty on seagate's site is "Component" and not the 5 years. What can I do? Please check your warranty and report back.

BAH, $10 cheaper. Outpost doesn't have a price guarantee do they?

I just checked all of the drives that I just bought in the last two weeks (300/400/400/500), and they're all under warranty until May 2011. Not gonna take them out of shrinkwrap just to check the actual part number on it until I need it. That way they retain more resale value - just in case.

It's a fvckup on Seagate's part. They'll still honor the warranty and apparently they're in the process of fixing the serial #s.
