just received mine. is usb 3 fast enough to tell a difference between the 5 platter 7200 rpm drive and the 4 platter 5900 rpm drive without cracking it open? or maybe my killawatt could tell a difference?
Use HD Tune Pro or CrystalDiskInfo. Either of those will tell you what drive and RPM it is.
This guy claims that you can tell from the box:just received mine. is usb 3 fast enough to tell a difference between the 5 platter 7200 rpm drive and the 4 platter 5900 rpm drive without cracking it open? or maybe my killawatt could tell a difference?
Why I am posting this is not for External drives but for the 4TB internal XT drives that are in these cases. Most of the external drives now have the ST4000DM000 Drives which are 5900RPM. But there are plenty that have XT. How do you tell... which cases have what...?
Pl. see the attached pics.. If it has the Windows 7 logo... it has XT drive. If it has Windows 8 logo... it has DM drive. I bought 11 of them.. and found XT drives in each of those windows 7 logo boxes.
I'm actually seeing $130. Lowest price ever so far?
They totally ignored that promo when I used it for my order the other day. It went via USPS and took at least 3 days. Also, if you have a Discover card there's a promo to get 1 day shipping for free.
