What kind of temps are you guys getting when OCing to 3ghz? Also, what Voltage are you using? I have a Slotek 939 VIA board and don't haven't had any luck. Well I mean it runs fine, but Prime95 quits only after 4 minutes.

Got my FX-55 and "open box" Freezer 64 Pro. Pulled out my old Athlon 64 3000+ last night and installed the FX and Freezer. Everything seems to be running smoothly. Ran Prime 95 for a while with no errors. Idle temp is 38C, loaded temp is 45C. I will continue to run it at stock speeds for another week or two before overclocking by adjusting the CPU multiplier.

I've been running it at 2.8GHz (14X multiplier) for a couple days now at stock voltage(1.36V), with a stock AMD 4 pipe heat sink I bought on eBay. My idle temp is 32C and full load, running Folding at Home at 100% gives me 37-38C in temps.
I am trying 3.0 GHz (15X) now but even though it boots and runs fine, it won't run the FAH program. I tried bumping the voltage to 1.4 but it wouldn't run. I now have the voltage up to 1.44 Vcore and it's running FAH and the temp went to 45C. So far so good.

I've only had about 30 min. to overclock, but right now I'm 2.5 hrs prime stable at 2.98Ghz with 1.5 vcore. Using speedfan, the cpu temp. tops out at 44C while the core reading dances around 51C under load. Do you guys think that's too hot for the core? I'm using an infinity for cooling, but I was hoping to get 3.05~3.1.

sounds a tad hot. the cpu should be fine though. The cpu is rated 65C, but you never want to reach those kinda temps or your cpu life will be drastically shortened. I have mine running 2.98 also, at stock voltage and it idles at 36-38 and loads in the mid 40's w/ my si-120 w/ scythe 120mm fan. What cooling unit you using? 3.05-3.1 may be kinda tough. Mine won't fully load windows at 3.1 at stock voltage (won't even start loading windows boot screen at 3.2), and I would rather like to keep the cpu at stock voltage to prolong it's life.

Wow. That's awesome you got 2.98 on stock voltage. Is that prime stable or what do you use to stress test? As for cooling, I'm using a scythe infinity w/ an antec fan at ~2000rpm. Since I was in such a hurry just to get some numbers, I might have gotten a little overzealous with the voltage. I'll start lowering voltage and tweaking tomorrow, and report back.

edit: Tinman2, I use speedfan to check temps.

I've got mine at 1.5 volts stable at 3.0. I get an error on prime 95 after an hour, but I have run 3dmark06 8 times in a loop, and BF2 for about 4 hours with no crashes, so it works for me.

Mine is a little hot, 35-37 ilde, up to 46-48 on load, but I use a zalman 7700 cooler for the silence, pc is in my bedroom. Im sure there are better coolers, but I like quite and the chip can take more heat.

I know this isn't the forum for it, but I have a Soltek board, more than enough cooling, and I am getting temps around 69 CELSIUS in Prime95. That's with Artic Coolers for both the CPU (Freezer 64 Pro) and my 6800GT. I've checked and re-checked my installation. Everything is rock stable, it's just that I can't overclock at these temps. Oh, and I used Artic Silver 5 thermal compound on the CPU. What's going on?

I just dropped the coin for one and didn't even need it. I justified my purchase by telling myself it would be a step up from my 2 year old Newcastle 3800. I know I won't see a differnce since I don't game much, but like a Double Whopper with cheese at Burger King I couldn't pass up the chance to get my hands on a gut buster for cheap!

Ordered it tonight for $139 shipped. (I tried the promo code with other CPUs with no luck? but I just HAD to try it.) Hell..... I'll use it as a spare. I am quite well aware that dual core is the new kid on the block right now, but it will be a quite a while before this Moose of a chip ends up on a surplus computer site for junk parts.

That is wayyyyy too hot. Either the sensor is reporting incorrectly or you need to shut down and rma right away. As posted earlier, the cpu is rated at 65C and that alone will drastically shorten the processor's life. Do you have the stock hsf? Maybe try that and see if anything changes. While you have the hsf off, check how flat the IHS is on the processor. My friend had a curved one on his athlon that resulted in idle temps in the mid 50's. Ended up buying a ninja before he figured out it was'nt the heatsinks. What voltage are you at?

it will work, just don't try overclocking it at all, since the stock amd 64 hsf is weak. If the cpu idles in the 50s I would suggest you get another hsf tho, since it would prolly load in the 60s.
