Wow....3Ghz easy!! (204x15) I just bumped the voltage to 1.475...and that is with some lame Thermaltake HSF!!! I have not put on the Freezer Pro yet. I only swapped chips..I could not wait..hehehe. I cant wait to get this on the Mach 2 II!! Think I am going to have to put it back together for a bit without a new case. I want to keep dinking with this thing tonight and put that other cooler on it. This is to cool to just hit 3Ghz w/out stressing anything. Maybe tomorrow I will try the Mach 2.

Don't feel bad, I bought two. There is no shame in folding under the thought of owning an FX for under $150....especially when they're still the creme de la creme of single core. Well, almost. heheheh

I couldn't resist in upgrading my 3200+ Venice @ 2.5ghz for this...... Hello, I'm stokes, I have a computer part shopping problem...

BTW while I'm at it, should I upgrade the HSF? I use the XP-90 right now

If you were successful/stable with venice overclocks using XP-90 then I suggest trying it out with the FX.

As for the post above yours, best performing air Heatpipe atm are scythe inf/nj or si-120.

Oh wise sages - I seek guidance.

Installed the FX-55 with no problem. Got the Arctic 64 and although tight squeeze it fits great. Super quiet so far. Decided to checkout CPU-Z before I twiddle.

And I see my Multiplier and Voltage fluctuating! It usually rests at x6.0 and 1.104 V (giving 1190 MHz) and then cocasionaly spikes to x13.0 and 1.392 V (giving 2576 MHz).

Whats deal here? Have I been out of the game so long that I am missing something or should I send this thing back?

My board is a plain Jane Acer board (that T160 deal) but should be able to handle this stock at least.

Memory is 2 sticks of 256 MB 3200 and 1 stick of 512 MB 2700 and 1 stick of 1GB 2700. I know this is hampering me from getting most out of machine, but is this any real issue?

Thnaks al!

Cool and Quiet- when the processor isnt working hard it will scale back the speed, that is why it is changing like that

Ahh, many thanks. Sadly mobo i slimited and no such controls on it. Only option is Smart control for fan - and that only maximizes the speed of fan if turned off. But thanks for info!

For daily use, any NF4 Ultra or Sli will do.

If you plan to maximize overclock of that chip, a lot of people will tell you to grab DFi Lanparty Ultra-D.

MSI Neo4 SLi comes to mind too. Heck, any NF4 Sli or xpress200 939mobo will do. It all depends on what you need when it comes down to what 1) features the mobo has and 2) price.

How are you guys still buying this at the $139 price. It has been $209 for me for a couple days now and the $50 code is no longer working. There is, however, a new combo deal with a 250GB Seagate SATA HD.

T-T. Nevermind, seems like I've been looking at the retail one because the OEM FX-55 is no longer listed by the advanced search. The new retail deal is pretty hot too, considering you get a 200 GB drive for, cpu fan, and full warranty on the FX-55 for $70 more.

I think I'm going to replace my motherboard now so I can OC this FX-55 when it comes in. I searched Newegg for the Lan Party and about 6 of them came up with the most popular one coming in at $104 and it looks similar/same to the others. Can you help out with which one would be best? Here's the link. DFI Lan Party

The $104 one is the way to go if you dont care about SLi, if you want SLI get the ~$138 one(DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail )

here's the Ultra-D. It's the most popular due to being the same board as the SLI-DR at a cheaper price (since it doesn't come factory with SLI, but can be modded for SLI).

Yep, it is an "open box" item, but since it is just a heatsink and fan, I ordered one. Pretty good deal at less than $20.

Looks like Newegg is out of the "open box" cooler, but a brand new one is $22.99 shipped. Or you can opt to get it at Provantage.com for $20.88 shipped.

Thanks, I'm still a little confused on the $104 one though because in the reviews on the site there's a bunch of people who are using SLI on that board too.

Figures, I bought mine lastnight from SVC for 24.99 shipped because Newegg was still 29.99 + 4.99 shipping. >_<
