1. DO NOT FLASH YOUR BIOS USING EZFLASH (ALT+F2)!!! It will corrupt your BIOS and you will have to buy a new BIOS chip or have your chip reflashed by ASUS. Both of which will cost you time and money.
2. The thermal compound between the heatsink and CPU is non other than Shin-Etsu X-23-7783D. This stuff is as good or better than Arctic Silver, so you don't need remove it unless you really want to.
3. This motherboard likes to short out on many cases. Make sure you're using standoffs of proper length and insulating washers. If you have a short, you'll receive one of a number of error messages, none of which have anything to do with your actual problem (the one I was getting was "System failed CPU test."
Thanks for the tips. I was telling the folks over at FW that the thermal paste was probably Shin-Etsu. How do you know what number it is?

Weird. Not that it seems to make any difference with anyone, but what was your order number? Don't mean to rain on your parade, but it just seems more likely that the guy you talked to was clueless. Though I would like to be wrong. Do you work for a legit AMD Gold or Platinum provider?

Thermaltake includes it with the Venus 7+ heatsink. It could possibly be something else, but I highly doubt it based on the color and how well it seems to perform.

ME: Sir, I have two company's with you guys and I registered and enrolled with your promotional, but noticed that my order was cancelled, how can I change this?

AMD REP: Sir I can give you a number to check on this 1-800-800-8300

ME: Sir that is Tiger Direct's number, they are the ones who told me that the order has been cancelled...

AMD REP: Sir, I do apologize. Our latest information states that we are in the process of resubmitting several of the orders that were ACCIDENTLY cancelled. The status of those orders should be changing.

ME: Sir do you know when I will be able to find out?

AMD REP: Sir, I do not know when, I only know that several of the orders will be submitted.

There ya have it.... I stand corrected, I guess I need to keep my big YAP shut and just sit back and relax... I will call AMD in a day or so... seeing as how I am one of those guys who received a welcome to AMD e-mail and not a "your company is not a Gold or Bronze or Copper, or even Aluminum or even FOOL's GOLD member of the AMD solutions provider.

Some of us will be getting our combo's some of us won't. I might not get one.. but I will definitely call AMD again to find out why...

Dude you didnt get it, just keep checking amd for the next promo. Mine is going to be here tomorrow don't know what to say to you. Alot of people have gotten theirs, an many more are on the way. Gues you could call and keep bitching.

Just got mine too. Oh well. That's 200.00 I have to spend toward something else. This would have been the 3rd AMD 3200+ purchased. To be honest, I'm ready to do something else.

Hats off to the ones who got in under the wire on this great deal. There will be many more deals down the road, thats for sure.

Here's a quote from the inital page that linked to the promotion.

quote:
AMD Market Builder is the new members-only web portal that will provide a single interface for all AMD channel programs in North America

So I'm a new member and there was no mention of gold or platinum status to qualify for the promo.

Check out this link and read the qualifications carefully: (read 2iii)

Rules For Promotion

Also, if you search for "Asus" at the "overweight money-container" website, and check out the 2nd result thread, you'll see the requirements for this promo. At least I think it's the same promo. ?

Rule 2 iii, refers to employees of AMD who are gold and platnium members. They are the ones not eligible. It doesn't say anything that non-employees need to be gold or platnium members. If so, show the proof. Read the rules again.

Let us know if you get one. I'm curious, since you said they ran out.

I emailed [deleted] earlier and this is the response that I received:

Hello,

Congratulations on passing the AMD64 Challenge! Unfortunately, your company is not currently eligible for the Employee Purchase Program pursuant to the Official Rules, which limits eligibility to ?employees of AMD Solution Provider members at the gold or platinum level companies."

Although you received an order confirmation, it has now been canceled and your credit card will not be charged.

You can still log on to www.marketbuilder.amd.com and stay informed about AMD processor-based solutions. Now that you are registered you will find:

AMD Partner Toolkit

Find the logos, messaging, benchmarks and product imagery you need to advertise your AMD processor-based products.

XpressNow! Service

Express RMA service is available only to AMD Solution Provider Members.

Sales and Technical Documents

Download and/or order the latest AMD literature for your business and your customers.

AMD Solution Provider News

Stay up to date on the latest AMD product offerings, promotions and training available exclusively to SPP members.

Sincerely,

The AMD Solution Provider Team

The thing that really pisses me off about this is that I registered under my college who I know is an AMD retail partner and others from my own office have received their package. I wrote them back saying as much so hopefully Ill hear a more positive response.

You misinterpreted that section. It reads "are employees of AMD Solution Provider MEMBERS at the gold or platinum level companies and are registered members of the AMD Solution Provider Program."

It doesn't say anything about AMD employees in that section.

I got my new 3200+ up to 2.42GHz with the Venus 7+ at stock voltage.

edit: that's better than the A64 3700+ ($688 on pricewatch).

Looks like its completely dead unless you work for Gold/Platinum companies.

I too have received the standard response from AMD:

Congratulations on passing the AMD64 Challenge! Unfortunately, your company is not currently eligible for the Employee Purchase Program pursuant to the Official Rules, which limits eligibility to "employees of AMD Solution Provider members at the gold or platinum level companies." Although you received an order confirmation, it has now been canceled and your credit card will not be charged.
You can still log on to www.marketbuilder.amd.com and stay informed about AMD processor-based solutions. Now that you are registered you will find:

Blah blah blah....

I responded to this indicated my frustration with this promotion being offered to us even though we don't qualify and got this response:

We understand your position. However, the official rules have been posted on the Market Builder website since the promotion was launched. We cannot force people to read them. The rules are a legally binding document whether or not they are read. The official rules state that only gold and platinum members are eligible.
Please click here for the official rules:

For complete information on the AMD Solution Provider Program, please refer to the Solution Provider Overview on our web site:

Best regards,
AMD Solution Provider Team

I sent another email to further explain my dis-satisfaction, but I don't think it will help the situation on this promotion. Maybe they will have another soon to make up for all the dissatisfied enthusiasts and small builders. Let's hope.

You should reply with, "Then make all the other people that got them and did not qualify, send them back"
