cleaned out new london ct store, 2 x 1000va AVR UPS's for $62 and change.

the tag on the shelf said $129.99 - $30 instant rebate $99.99 AR. i went to the register and it rung up as $29.99, so i went and got the other one.

BTW this is cheaper then the $39.99 350va UPS right next to it on the shelf

This is smoking hot.

Went to Mountain View, CA, they were out.
Called Santa clara, out.
Called San Jose, paydirt. Two in the system, they set them aside for me. Used two $10 off coupons they mailed to me, out the door at $20 each plus tax. As I left an OM employee walked to the customer service counter with one in his hand, so they clearly had more and were either mistaken or setting them aside for themselves or other call-ins.

Props to OM for not snaking them for themselves, they just got back on my "A list."

HOLY FREAKING SNIP!!!! this is an insane deal clsA, good job!

checked around los angles, van nuys is out, granada hills is out, venice is out.

BUT, i asked this super nice csr (she apologized everytime she had to put me on hold and whenever she said it was out of stock) about perhaps getting a raincheck- and she asked her manager and they said YES. so i'm going to pick up a raincheck right now for at least 1 of these bad boys. and i hope this helps all you guys out too who weren't able to get one!

Thanks for this Hot Deal. I live in Glendale, AZ, went to Arrowhead store, none on shelf. asked the guy standing there, he went and looked, found two in the back, on hold for "customers". I laughed, he laughed. He looked up stock at another store, Deer Valley. they had two, (supposedly), I asked to ask them to hold one for me, figured I'd get both if they actually existed. Get there went to CS counter, gave my name, they whipped out a 350VA. Sorry. I pointed out that the guy had read the SKU off the shelf tag to them. Uhh, they had the computer guy come out. We went back, there's none on the shelf. (I had already looked) He looks it up, they show two. He heards for the back room to see if there's any, see's one on a high rack on the way. Gets it down and we head for the front. I'd noticed that there was no sale price shelf tag anywhere in sight, wondered if it would ring up right. Sure enough, the gal at the CS counter scans it, $30, I'm outta there.

Thanks again, OP clsA

just in time as my old one is shot, it was only a 650 to begin with.

Since they all seem to be sold out I am going to try the raincheck approach tomorrow and ask them to honour that price

WOOT! Scored 3 in south Denver, CO. Awesome deal! They did not know what hit them, the cashier obviously wanted one for himself, once he saw what it rung up as, started sighing, asking me if I left any, where I found them, etc. Funny thing is, they had a sticker on the shelf, so somebody from that store had to put it up, but it obviously wasn't him.

Hot Deal's n00b <hawt-deelz-nuu-bee> (noun)

- A person who calls an OfficeMax CSR to inquire about a smoking deal, only to alert the employees about it and thus ruin any chance of obtaining said deal.

- A person who trusts an OfficeMax CSR or OfficeMax shelf-tag when inquiring about the price of a smoking deal, instead of relying on the information provided to them by their fellow Hot Dealers.

- An idiot.

On saturday night a guy bought the last two APC 1000's we had for $130 each. I work at the office max in Richardson, TX and have been waiting for this particular unit to go on sale. Putting out the shelf tags later that night I saw the APC for $30... needless to say I wasn't too thrilled :|

If you are reading these forums Mr. I Jacked T3ch's APC... go die.

edit -- oh yeah, I was going through the clearance list and article "2021-9201" is a $150 digital camera marked down to $30 clearance, if anyone cares to scour their local stores.

Some people don't have the time or patience to drive around for hours on end in an attempt to catch a deal. I called my OM, they set them aside. I saved hours by doing so.

Sure, you risk "alerting them." But I'd rather just take a quick st@b at it and be done.

It worked for me this time around.

also, if the OM employees are setting them aside for themselves (which is what was happening in this case) then they already are "tipped off" about the deal, so there's no point in playing the innocent customer.

also, what the hell is: "- A person who trusts an OfficeMax CSR or OfficeMax shelf-tag when inquiring about the price of a smoking deal, instead of relying on the information provided to them by their fellow Hot Dealers."

what in the world does this have to do with this current deal? we all know to inquire repeatedly incase we get an exceptionally dim csr, but in the end the people at the b&m stores have the power of pricing- not us.

That's incorrect. The register has the power of pricing. If a shelf tag says $99, it rings up at $30. If a CSR (like someone mentioned earlier in this thread) says it is priced as tagged, it will still ring up $30. They would need to manually override the system price (which is connected to and updated nationally by OM) to make the price different if it's a national sale. The store manager only has the power of pricing in the case of *local* clearance deals only (not national clearance).

As for calling to check stock, it depends on the item. A $30 UPS might be a juicy steak for some employees, and a piece of bologna for others. However in the case of previous hot deals, like the Olympus C-50 (about a week back) for $39.04, calling is the absolute worst thing you can do. You think they'll *set aside* an Olympus $40 5MP digicam for you? Think again.

CSRs are smart enough nowadays to scan the price before confirming stock; they will tell you their system has the item in stock, but when they check the back room, the item is magically gone.

Anand Hot Deals has a higher concentration of n00bs anyways.

i'll agree with you on pricing discrepancies between register and shelf. i only wish it was that way with PMing too- the fact that a local manager can override the decision to go against a company's national PM program sucks. (the local BB manager here wouldn't PM an OD lcd because she said "it was too much money to lose")

Just like that f!@#ing Target manager that wouldn't let me get 2 games even though I had TWO separate rainchecks. . I just came back the next day to get the other copy, but no where on the company policy did it say participating stores or manager's approval necessary. . .the old woman at the cash register then informed me I needed to be 18 (I'm 20...) and also had this look on her face like I was trying to steal something by using the raincheck. Sheesh... Other than those two female dogs, Target is a great store (Free 25 digital prints anyone?)

Cheers.

honestly, i wish the corporations would lock down on their pricing policies and say "if X then Y, period no exceptions" that way when we get a good deal, the local managers can't bs their way out of it because we can then say "this is your corporate program, and their are no exceptions, i'll call your corporate office to prove it to you, but i don't think they'd be happy"
