My GF's Core2 Duo PC is dead. The system gets power, but there is no POST whatsoever. Drives start up but do not process anything, screen is blank, fans spin, etc.
At first, I thought the CPU was burned out (based on previous experience with these symptoms, it was my first assumption), but that was replaced and the system is just as dead with the new CPU.
My coworker said Intel CPUs generally do not die like that, and that it is probably the mobo, but also suggested checking the PSU.

Here's my confusion.
The ASUS repair page says the warranties for all mobos purchased after 1999 are good for 3 years based on the serial number, and to contact the reseller (Newegg).
Newegg product link off the original invoice from 4-2007 says the warranty is only 1 year, and I need to contact the manufacturer.
Anyone have experience with RMA'ing a bad mobo to either ASUS or Newegg? Is it worth the trouble at this point to contact either one of them, or should I bite the bullet and get her an all-new mobo (and hope it installs correctly -- I hear the drivers from an original Nvidia-chipset mobo can really mess you up if you try changing mobos when it dies)?

- Swapping CPUs - still dead
- swapping the RAM sticks out in different configurations - still dead
- testing the PSU with a highly-recommended tester (during which I happened to notice one ground pin slightly recessed in the 8-pin CPU mobo power coming from the PSU, but I fixed it) - still dead
