(DEAD) CenDyne 32x12x40 (#20146450) for $109.99 - $40 rebate - $25 coupon = $44.99 at OfficeMax.

(Update: Staples will have this 32x drive on sale for $30 AR & coupon starting 5-19) LINK

Link to CenDnye 32x

Link to rebate

For OfficeMax coupons do a search on Google.com key word "OfficeMax coupons"

Another idea is to use the staples $20 off $100 or $30 off $150 printable coupon at OfficeMax stores (they are support to take them) to buy the CenDyne 32x drive.

Also Staples has the 32x CenDyne on sale for $99.94, so if you can find a manager who doesn't know the OfficeMax PM rules it could be possible to PM the Staples price and get it for $10 cheaper. YMMV

FYI: Last week someone posted that he saw the CenDyne 40x12x48 selling for $139.99 before the $40 MIR in a OfficeMax store (it has never been sold on-line), if it's still at that price and a coupon (officeMax, Staples or Office Depot) is allow to be used it might be a good deal.

So far poeple who own the CenDyne 32x drive have identified the rebadged mfgs as Lite-on, verbatim (Rebadged Lite-ons) and Mitsumi (16Mb Buffer and supports the 'Mt. Rainier' format).

To identify which rebadged drive is in the Cendyne box look at the serials # on the top right label at the back of the box.

Lite-on 32x mfg drive have 12 digits, no letters - Sample (123456789012)
Verbatim 32x mfg drive have 12 digits, no letters - Sample (123456789012) (seem to be rebadged Lite-on 32x drives)
Mitsumi 32x drives have 22 digits mostly numbers -Sample (CR-123ATE45678A12QH9012). Also says 16BM buffer on the box

Here's a head to head comparison of the Lite-on and Mittsumi 32x drives Link to 32X roundup
Lite-on 32x review
Mitsumi 32x review
Verbatim 32x Info

FYI: Lite-on has something call "SMART-Burn Media Checker for LTR-3212xx ". Useful util for LiteOn LTR-30123S and LTR-30125W users
1: Show what speed your writer will write this media at(which speed smartburn selects for your media).
2: Show the CD-R disc manufacturer, DYE type and CD length. Download it here

Mistic man, add $7 tax and postage and the price of envelope in.
Plus $25 is only a probability with say 50% chance which is expected $12.50.
So the real expected price is $64.49, not counting wasting time, humiliation, and scavenger hunt for ID numbers.

In two-three months when you see your rebate back you can try to waste more time for that 48x16x52 Lite On with another two-three coupons and about the same price.

barabas, If you just want something cheap with no tax/rebate, just go to the swapmeet.

Yeah, don't give me a hot deal unless I can simply lift a finger and have it automatically and instantly done. Don't waste my time with a deal that might be great for other people and not me, or else I'll whine about it.

And if you didn't catch the sarcasm in those two lines, then I pity you. Deals are almost ALWAYS listed at the price before tax because it (surprise!) varies from state to state. And if you waste more than a few minutes trying to find a coupon, heaven FORBID! It's obvious that your time is very precious - in fact, I'd daresay that you probably don't even have enough time to complain about someone's posted deal. Oh, wait...nevermind.

Don't thread crap unless you have a real reason (e.g. merchant is known to be a horrible business or what-not). It seems that you just wanted something to bitch & moan about for the heck of it. Move on please.

Thanks for the great detailed post! Those are really helpful instructions...

Has anyone been to OfficeMax recently to see which rebadged drive is in the Cendyne packaging? I would like to get a Mitsumi that supports the 'Mt. Rainier' format.

still not much mt. rainier support it seems. also most of the 32x drives on the market, liteon, asus, aopen, cyberdrive, etc..., still don't seem to have mt. rainier support. not quite sure if it's all that important yet. based on the reviews, the liteon seems to be a better drive at this point.

Try typing the Sku# (20146450) in the box where it's says "Order-by-Number" on the officeMax home page, you should see the Promo box where the coupon code is placed.

If you plan on using your drive to do a lot of back up, then a drive with the Mount Rainier format would evenually be a big plus.

mysticman--u are the man. but when i tried this deal at the venice, ca OM, no deal. manager (who seemed like he had a stick up his ass) would either "allow the staples pm OR the $25 off coupon", which makes no sense after he said he wouldn't accept both because the coupon is for online only.... i called up the van nuys one and the manager was ever more of an asshole. he repeated the new OM PM policy, which excludes "items with rebates".... got me on that one. i said i had liked doin business with OM so i wanted to see if they would do it, but if not, i would just take my business to staples. in yo face.

oh well, so $60 for a 32x burner = no deal. heh...i've changed my standards based on AT hot deals. "standard" prices for 40x = $80, 32x = $60, and 24x < $40....

Guys, read evaluations on the web (cdrlabs for example), go to newegg site straight, get 32x12x48 Cyberdrive for $70, shipping included, get it in two days from newegg, and don't waste time and energy with this coupon nonsense.
btw Office Max coupon code for $25 off $100 is a four digit number, you can find it easily with a little search as he suggests.

is it B&M only deal or online? Last time I called in and their CR told me that's B&M only, they won't give me that price. If so, how can you use online coupon?

The sale doesn't start until Sunday, that's when the price will be $109.99 on the 32x drive.

I went down to OfficeMax today and tried to do this, but it didn't work out.

The manager was able to PM Staples price for $99, but he wasn't able to accept the coupon for $25 off. He said that it applies to only the Officemax.com website. Do you guys have any suggestions for me to try to get the OfficeMax B&M to accept online coupons? I really want to get this drive, and I want to be able to use the $25 off 100 coupon. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or ideas.

Thanks

geckojohn--i had the same experience... and it's true. technically, the $25 off is only for online purchases... if he doesn't want your business, so be it. say you're off to staples to buy it and see what the manager says. it's pretty much up to him.

me? i gave up on this deal and went to best buy to get the sony 32x10x40 for $100 with a $20 rebate. the best part is that i don't have to pay for it because my sony card points will cover it and then some. had to find a way to use up those points hehe... alright, good luck all. i'm done with my cdrw upgrades for now. onto something else...

Thanks, I'll take your advice. If OfficeMax doesn't want my business, I'll show them what's up! Staples baby! I'm gonna try a different OfficeMax tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes. Please post any updates.

I ordered the 32x drive the other day for $129.99. Just got off the phone with OM and they PMed me down $20. After tax and rebate I am going to get this drive for just less than $50! Wahoo! This is going to be a great upgrade from my 4x2x24 burner.

i have used office max B&M to accept coupon codes twice....

it might help to go in near closing time...i only say this as when i bought a $300 All In One printer as the store was within a few minutes of closing , the manager said as she rang up the sale that it was a nice way to end the day... maybe sales were slow that day...

of course, with a CD-RW dive that's less than $100, not sure the "end of day advice" applies.
