Previous order was canceled due to product availability. Re-ordered last night, recieved confirmation letter via e-mail stating ETA for drive is 5/29...blah.

I have a strong feeling these late drives might be an Aopen, but who knows. Depends where they get their stock from.

Well I got some liteon luvin, or its a verbatim, either way i'm happy...i'm not happy tho since my torchiere lamp was not shipped. Some investigating, and it was OOS. I don't know how it can be OOS at 4am Sunday morning. Anyway the CSR credited back the lamp, but made no mention of it invalidating my cpn for the drive....any ideas? should I just keep my mouth shut, and watch the bill???

Is it just me or does it seem everyone has gotten Lite-on drives?
(which would be good) - anyone gotten anything else (from this specific deal)?

Ordered Sunday, got everything delivered today (tues). Came by private courrier, from a local store. Not only did they include "corporate" packing list, they've printed all the receipts via register, even all rebate forms printed via register, all arranged neatly and stapled together! Great work somebody there....must have taken at least 10min doing just that.

The CDRW is a LiteOn, but that's all I've seen Locally...... Time for my 2x2x24 to retire.

Just got off chatting with the online CSR who was very helpful. He said that he order status wasn't working for the time being...but that he'd be glad to check my status for me. I gave him my order number and looked it up and said everything was fine and that they had to pull my CDRW from another loc. because the one my house was out already...but it should show up by the 24th...so I'm happy..

Just recieved mine, only complaint is that it is very loud when reading disks.

Does anyone know what is the correct upc code is for the rebate? I have 3 little barcodes on the back of the box.

Based no what people have been posting here and in my thread on another forum, I would estimate (it's still early) that 70% to 75% received the Lite-on or Verbatim (rebadged Lite-on) mfg drives and everyone else received the AOpen mfg drive, no one has said they received a Mitsumi mfg drive from this Staples deal.

Yep, the tracking number for mine indicated the package originated from Harrisburg, PA. If you were hoping for a Lite-On, you may be in luck .

I just got mine... it's a Verbatim. It has a dorky looking Verbatim logo on the front. Does anyone know of a way to remove this logo? Maybe rub it off with something?

No, but see my post somewhere in the middle of this thread on how to convert (at your own risk) your verbatim (rebadged liteon) to a true liteon (other than the logo on the front )

Worked great for me and it's now a liteon according to XP and all my programs.

One thing about the verbatim is that it wasn't recognized by a few programs (namely retrospect express). After I converted it, retrospect recognized it. Verbatim support answered one of my questions in a way that made me think it might not be recognized in the Adaptec software as well with the verbatim firmware loaded.

You can copy Safedisc2 with a AOpen drive using CD Mate or CloneCD (set your Region setting in Windows for Canada, then pull up CloneCD, you will be able to access the Amplify Weak Sectors box).
Are you absolutely sure?
http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Specific.asp?ArticleHeadline=32x+CD%2DRW+Roundup+Vol2&index=8 reports that the AOpen drive doesn't...

This was originally posted by someone else.
(AOpen DOES SD2 !!

Ahh, found it. I remember awhile back that CloneCD had an "Amplify Weak Sector" feature that enabled CloneCD to do SD2 backups even with drives that weren't technically SD2 compatible. In the US and UK you are not allowed to use the AWS function and it isn't "available" although you can see it (it's greyed out).
But, if you set your Region setting in Windows (yes, it works in XP) for Canada, then pull up CloneCD, you will be able to access the Amplify Weak Sectors box. I've tried this and it does indeed work. Remember, this box only appears when you are writing a CD.
Also, you can do a registry edit to enable the AWS box or you can download CloneAMP to make the changes for you. Not all CD-RWs can use the AWS feature. BUT the Aopen CAN!
For those Aopen people, I wouldn't be disappointed one bit. I just wish I'd thought about looking at this earlier before wasting my time hunting down a frickin' Liteon.

Please check out the following links.
http://www.leech.at/sd2brenner - Tells you which burners are compatible with AWS, in addition to the AOpen.
http://www.cdrsoft.cc/index3.html - Search for "amplify." Find files and Forums discussing SD2, CloneCD and AWS workaround.
http://www.clonecd.net/about.htm - General info on CloneCD.
Modifying your system to do SD2 should take less than five minutes. Now, go forth and SD2.

This will also work on other manufacture's CD-RW drives.

Also come people have said they have successfully updated the rebadged AOpen with firmware downloaded from the AOpen web site LINK

Ordered Sunday, waitin for me when I got home today. Hoping for Lite-on, got an aopen. Read the review and said "screw it, as long as it can do safedisk". Flashed the firmware to the 1.12 (the review was using .98 I believe) and all seems good so far.
$30 for a 32x's burner. I am happy

Rec'd my 12-digit Verbatim today. Morph's right though, the large RED logo is making my eyes water. Gotta find the acetone

There's a $15 off $100 / $30 off $150 printable email coupon around if you want to see if you can find one at a local Staples store.

Have you tried burning a Safedisc2 CD without using something CloneCD?

To those who got the Liteon

Does the CD tray eject in one smooth motion?

When ejecting the CD tray, the tray goes out fine for 3/4 of the way. On the last 1/4, the motor starts to whine and the tray slows down for the last 1/4.

Is this normal?

i bought 1 burner on sunday with 20 off coupon. THEN staples sends me a 30 off 150 coupon. so i took that and went to the B&M. the store had 3 left. i checked all 3 of em. 2 of them were AOPEN, and 1 LITE-ON..i took the lite-on. Came home today, and the burner i bought online was here. It was a verbatim. I kept the lite-on and passed the verbatim onto a friend. I luv staples!

As far as I know, the warehouse is in Chambersburg...it was probably just shipped through UPS' Harrisburg Hub.

And as a BTW, to those of you who got the Lite-On drive and are considering flashing the bios, watch out! I flashed mine with the updated one (XS0R > XS0U) and it screwed the drive over (computer saw it, but Windows couldn't read from it). Only after I did a creative backflash (hexedit the version # in the XS0R file so it's later than XS0U) did I get the drive back. It's usually not fatal, but it is a headache if you screw it up!
