Xidus, if you want to see what CDSpeed is supposed to look like with the Lite-On you can go to the roundup here. It's right there in the middle of the first page, and yours definately looks abnormal compared to that one. Did you flash your firmware?

I did flash it with no change. I can see mine starts off like it's supposed to, but after the first dip after it hits 20x it doesn't go up to 24x like it's supposed to, it just stays around 17x after that. And you notice in that screenshot of CD Speed it also says it's using P-CAV, even though it's Z-CLV. CD Speed is buggy with reporting that I guess.

As far as I can tell DMA is on, but performance isn't suggesting that. I'm not sure what else to try.

I suppose you're right. It's all I can think of as well. I have tried 3 different brands of media, a 16x Taiyo Yuden,a 24x, and a 32x. Funny thing is the 24x came with the drive, but it looks to be cheapo. That smart burn media check program from lite-on says SMART Burn will write the 32x at 32x, maybe it's lying to me

Cendyne's website lists the minimum system requirements: IBM Compatible Pentium/200Mhz MMX Processor. However, on the outside of the box itself reads IBM Compatible Pentium II/200Mhz MMX Processor.

Does anyone know if the LTR-32123S is compatible with Pentium/200Mhz MMX Processor?

well. i want to make sure i get a lite-on. i ordered mine on saunday (1st day of the sale) and havent recieved crap yet. the staples sorta near my house still has a few. would i be able to purchase one at the store and return the one i get in the mail? do they mark the bar code or anything?

I'd say the spec is alittle low for burning at high speed. But it should run fine. maybe you should burn at 16x or slower just to be safe.

I too have an extra, its an AOpen though. If ne1 wants to buy it i'll sell for $60 w/o the UPC (gotta make some $)...or $90 (plus ship) with the UPC intact and a copy of my receipt..which shows the price $86.58 cause of 8.25% tax in NY...to help out an AT'er that couldnt get in on this.

Xidus,are you sure you used the right firmware? There is a 32123S(this one) and a (I think)a32123W.It may be 32125W.Anyway the
W version is NOT the same!It is the PCAV drive!

Heh Xidus, I have the same problem except mine's the Verbatim rebadge. After burning at 17x no matter what I tried in this system, I gave up and decided to wait until I move the drive to a new athlon xp system I've been slowly building and if it still burns at 17x, then Cendyne is suck ;p

I'm still having problems getting my Lite-on to record at speeds higher than 24x. I used the media checker program and it says that the media is rated for 32x and I went under the Preferences->Cache->Test all drives (by the way none of my CDRom drives came up in the list) but no luck. I'm going to try and flash the firmware to the latest and see if that works. Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

actually i've done that a lot of times with various products including video cards, videos, etc. it's like getting the item overnight to ya but paying a 5 day shipping fee

I missed the sale/rebate for the Cendyne CDRW
Provided that the CDRW is really a Lite-ON does it make any sense to just buy it for $99 and flash it?
I *really* need a new CDR/W as my Plextor 4/2/20 just doesn't cut it any more....

I don't think I can get Staples to honor the rebate if they see the receipt dated 5/26.
