I would be all over this but my 3700 San Diego is running fine at 3GHz (Paid $93 for it a few months ago)
Man what a deal for those wanting one last upgrade on the 939 platform!

hmm... My 3200 ran closer to 40-45C. The 4000 now runs around 35C idle with the stock AMD cooler.
I can almost immediately tell a difference in performance when I play Company of Heroes.

kind of funny on the CoH comment... just got my kid a 8800gts (he had a x1800xt 512 oc'd)... didn't upgrade cpu/mem, he's got a opty @2.8 and 2gb mem... using a 20 in lcd @ 1600x1050 he still gets 'glitches'... it runs a lot better with the 8800, but it looks like it could use a bunch more cpu... i guess i'll see how much the 4000 oc's and maybe put it in his if it goes 3ghz...

or the $400 vid card will drive me to have to build a c2d box...

i remember that i would have been happy to get a pair of real levi's jeans for christmas when i was a kid...

Well, I'm only running at 1024x768, so that probably helps my case... lol

CoH make sure shadows are off or set to low.

The ardOCP review of the 8800GTX and GTS they didn't turn shadows past Low for high rez.

Pulled the trigger on this one on 12/27. Be here on 01/02. I currently have a 3000+ winchester. One final upgrade on this machine before new build. Couldn't pass up the price.
While I'm in there replacing CPU I have a chipset fan starting to fail (MSI K8N Neo4-F) so I have a Iceberq (CCB-A1C) to replace it with. Might as well get it all done at same time.

How does this 4000 compare to the Opty 146 which I currently have and it's running nice 3.2Ghz (on water). Is the 4000 better?

Thanks

Nah, same. Both are basically A64 processors on 90nm process with 1MB cache. Only difference will be stock 12x multiplier versus 10x on your 146. For overclocking of course YMMV. My 4000+ at 3.2GHz will perform pretty much identical to your 146 at 3.2GHz. You got a good chip there - no need to replace it.

Regarding CoH, it seems to run pretty smooth on my machine, x2 3800+ @2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, 7900GS @stock, 1680x1050 resolution with "auto" settings for everything else. What the heck are people trying to do, run it at native res on a Dell 30" LCD with everything turned up?

Hah, single core processors are today's Celerons and Semprons; instead of half the cache, it's half the cores!

Well, got mine in a couple of days ago and it's on an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe using an AMD 4-heatpipe heatsink from an Opteron cpu (I believe it's the newer version of the Opty hs and has the little 80mm fan), 2 x 1GB Corsair XMS DDR PC3200 RAM, and an ATI Radeon x1950 Pro.

I've got it cruising at 3.12GHz (12 x 260 FSB) @ 1.45-1.475v.....I have the vCore set at 1.475v in the BIOS, but the mb will vary the vCore depending on load between the aforementioned voltages. It just won't get past loading Windows at a 270 or faster FSB setting....dammit!!!

Temps on the cpu run around 37C at idle, load temps are just too high to mention....well into the upper 60's or close to 70C. Guess it's time for a better cpu heatsink......suppose the little AMD hs's 80mm fan has met its match this time.....darned thing at full tilt sounds like a jet engine trying to spool up to full speed.

Awesome speeds. Well, my testing was done with the same HSF, but in a cold garage (I live in Wisconsin). Every little bit helps.

Anyone have experience with these open box processors? I'm assuming these are RMAs.
