Depends on the game is the accurate answer.

In some games a Ti4200 will perform similar to a Radeon 9800 Pro....!

However, the Radeon 8500 is pretty similar to the Ti4200 in many instances as well and will actually outperform it in Unreal II.
I know for Soldier of Fortune II, the Radeon was a great improvement over my Ti4200 overclocked to 4600 levels.

(I have both cards.)

For the same price I'd take the GF 4 however at half price I'd be happy with the Radeon 8500

For the record my Ti4200 was $69 at Circuit City 2 years ago

A couple very good things about these cards:

1. You can flash them with a mac bios for mac use (mac cards are overpriced as hell)
2. You can flash them into FireGL cards for low end workstation use (older but still nice)

Although I wouldn't buy anything like this right now for normal use, there are other alternatives out there that will blow it away for just a bit more.

How do you know it has the 2nd RAMDAC? I don't see it specified anywhere, and the picture doesn't show it (not that the picture means anything).

Good price for a memorable card though. I think it will spank most new cards in this price range.

For those that were wondering, if you don't need the latest-and-greatest video card, this actually is a pretty good deal, for the price range. Some people even play Doom3 on an 8500, at low settings. I'm curious about why the seller's page links to a Gateway site for OEM drivers, rather than ATI's own site for the regular Cats. Is the logical PCI device/subvendor ID on these cards different enough, that they need a hacked .INF to use normal Cats with them? Performance-wise, at 275/275, this card would be faster than a stock 9200 AGP (250/200). Plus, I think it was the 8500 that supported TruForm in hardware.

Sorry, I saw "Dual Monitor and Video output support" and assumed it had a 2nd RAMDAC, but you're right, I don't see it on the photo (not that the photo means anything).

There must be 2nd RAMDAC for dual monitor support, right? I'll know when I get my card.

I am running an old TNT2 on this server i have because I sold my 9600 pro and thought the tnt2 would be good enough but it seems to lag a bit when changing windows and stuff.... and idea if this 8500 card would be a nice cheap upgrade to a decent card?

Well...by "a bit more" he meant at least twice but probably three times as much. There is nothing out there under Radeon 9600 that will "blow away" a Radeon 8500. R9600 starts around $75 ~ $80. Radeon 9500 Pro would blow it away, but then used R9500 Pro's are still fetching as much as new Radeon 9600 Pro on Ebay.

R8500 would be a huge improvement over TNT2, but if the price goes above $50 I would pass.

That would be an improvement over TNT2 but not nearly as much as R8500 for $14 more.

I'm not really looking to game i guess, but I am annoyed by the slow window drawing when i have firefox open with 30 tabs. the machine is a 2.8ghz, with 512ram, the ram is pc2100, so maybe thats the other problem.... before I had 1gb PC3200 and the 9600 pro. I was trying to make some cash for a laptop, but just couldnt let go of the 2.8 lol oh well.
