Got me 2 today at a CC for 46 out the door... although it definitely would have been stopped if the manager had seen. I kinda guilt tripped/badgered the kid into letting me have it. I also brought the CC receipt and shelf tag scan. I even brought my receipt from bb the previous day when I bought a drive just to use to pm at cc I got EXTREMELY lucky I guess. Don't ask me for the receipt cause you already have one here and I don't want to get the kid in trouble. Hmm .. A hot deals person with a conscience

I should mention that I got the drives because a kid at another store lied to me about pm policy and apparently must have pm'd to his friends because that store mysteriously ran out of stock overnight.

I got the drive Friday, 1/17, at $114, in Houston at the Galleria BB store. Can I take a printed copy of the tag with my receipt and get a price adjustment to $69, the price on 1/19?

Well I went to a BB in Mesa,AZ. Found a few drives on the shelf and took on to checkout. It confused the checkout clerk of course and she called someone fron the computer dept (you had told me to just take it to checkout) and he had to go see manager, etc. So 15 min later they decided they would only match it if I could tell them what store the tag came from!!!!
While waiting, another Anandtech Hot deals reader walked up in line behind me, same drive in his hand (small world).

Does anyone know what store this came from?? I have read "Texas" but I need a specific store.

I will try another BB if I have time during the week if I have time.

I was also at a Best Buy here today and the guy said that he would pricematch to the scanned price tag if I could tell him where the store was and the number for it. So, anyone that got one and still has the deal happening there, post the 3 digit store number please.

edit:
der....

They're just giving you a hard time. They can tell exactly what store it came from with the shelf tag. I believe it has a store code on it ( I mentioned that to the kid in bestbuy and he seemed to confirm it). They're just trying to screw with you.

IZPOOF, I asked him about that (determining store from tag) and he said no. I dont think he was lying intentionally, he just didnt know or said what the manager told him to say.
I should have demanded to speak directly to the manager but I had to get home to list some stuff on ebay, like on of the 160G WD HD's I got a good del on at Fry's a couple of weeks ago.(haha.

I had some good luck with this deal today.

It all started on Sunday when I went into to my local BB for this drive. They had none in stock, of course, but did have the shelf tag showing the $70-$40mir=$30. I checked with the guy at the counter and he confirmed that they didn't have any in stock. He went so far as to show me the screen, the screens for some other stores (he showed a few others that did have it) as well as the wherehouse stocks and orders. OK, not a problem.

I called back today and they said that they did have 2 in stock (and it happened to be the same guy that helped me on Sunday - but he didn't know me from Simon). So I went into the store and found the stock on the shelf. I was surprised to see that the shelf tag now said $115-$40=$75. That's more than their original price a few days prior!! So I grabbed the two that were there and went to talk to the counter guys showing them my printout of the price scan that was posted here. They did some poking around, looking at the ads, checking their system and what ever else. Eventually he took pity on me or something and gave me the price break because I had been in on Sunday to try and buy it but they were out of stock. But he only gave it to me on one of the drives. Ah well. At least I got the one.

You can find out the store number by using the Store Locator on their website.
then try to match it up with the number on your receipts
or better yet, the number listed on shelf tags at that same store.

This would help us track down what store that shelf tag came from.

Them saying the price tag is fraudulent is a big joke. I have been to 3 BB?s and I looked at the new shelf tag and saw something that proves that?s just not true. Notice that the price tag has the date/time that it was printed? Well, all 3 tags had a date/time of 1/20 around 9:30-10:30am. Hmm, so what does this tell us boys and girls? That 3 stores just happened to reprint the price tag for the same item at about the same time. Coincidence? Not likely. They got word in the morning meeting on Monday to pull the tag for this product. So that?s 3 stores in my area, one in Burbank, Sacramento, etc., etc? My friend used to work LP and he said it is their job to look for this kinda stuff. If they see a product moving out the door like wildfire, they investigate it.

I feel really lucky now. The key is, find a college student CSR that could care less. Maybe Minnesota Nice is a factor for me!

Can people who have tags from some stores post them up and what store they came from. I want to see if there is some method for figuring out the store form tag. Especially good ones would be tags for this drive at any price.

There have been some reports of people getting a note inside the box saying they got a free upgrade to an SE drive. Is there any way to determine what's inside from the outside of the box?

This was the case with an old deal on a 120Gb HD. I don't remember the thread, but i remember it had something to do with the serial number on the bottom of the box. I don't remember specifics though, so I can't be much more help to you. I don't think we ever confirmed that was the case though.

I went to BB and fount that they didn't have any in stock on the shelf>
I asked a rep and he said he couldn't give a raincheck on it since it had a rebate with it. He told me that the shipment comes in Tuesday night and gets stcoked on the shelves after closing and that I should check back on Wednesday. I decided to take the tag since they were OOS at the time. So I decide to check Tuesday evening just before closing> Low and Behold they had 1 on the shelf!
I rushed over to CC to do a PM and they had none on the shelf, not even a tag listing where it would be.
HMM.
I think the drives were hidden at BB and that CC might be doing the same!

Well, I took the printout of BB Sugarland, TX tag TO Sugarland store to ask for an adjustment. CSR (Misty) says she can not because the system shows current price of $114. She can not find the tag price in there. I ask her to check with Mgr. They go over to drive section and look at current tag. No can do they say. You had to have come in on that day. I say I guess I have to come in every day and check, but they do not budge. They ask where I got the print. I say from a friend who saw the tag but they were out of stock. They say - well we would have given him a raincheck if out of stock. Do you really have to be there on the day? I will try at the store where I bought it after calling generically about the 'be there the day of sale' ruling.

The tag was printed on 1/19 and says the offer is good through 1/25. So barring problems because the tag is not from their actual store, I'm sure there's some legality issue to them denying peple the price. Accusing people of fraud just for bringing in the tag and asking for a pricematch borders on harassment and them threatening anyone with jail time I'm sure is a criminal offense. Just another example of a store bullying customers around to get its way. When did stores start treating customers like cattle ? I remember a long tiem ago when stores actually cared whether you bought from them or not and kept their word on prices.

That's right, it does say the price is good until 1/25 on the TX scan, hmmm. It would be interesting to go to BB, tell them that, then pull the new tag and ask them why the new one was printed on the 20th, Monday. I'm thinking rat in a corner... like to here the response.

bull ...truth is no raincheck unless it was in an advertisement(i.e. sales circular or newsprint/flyer) BB sucketh like that ..price come ..price go..they could care less if they actually adhere to any price that they tender/list/offer ..consumer takes it..well
..you know where ..if the deal is a serious lossleader(or perceived as such) as noted up above it will be yanked..

I went in to BB on Tue and they had the tag at $69.99, but no drives in stock. The guy there told me they were closeouts. I went to another BB yesterday and picked up 2 at the $115, hoping to PM at the BB w/the $69.99 tag. I took them back today, and the tag had been updated and there were more drives in stock. I should've taken the tag in the 1st place. I hate Best Buy.

I went back into BB this morning and saw that they had plenty in stock. I then went to CC and saw they had some drives now on the shelf. I had no problem PMing the drive. Got it for a little under $25 including sales tax!

My BB wouldn't honor the scan. Said it wasn't a deal they could honor. Apparently corporate knows about this and is disseminating the info down to their stores about it.

Went to CompUSA and almost got the PM, but the CSR called and happened to ask the price. Price was $115. Then he talked to his manager about it and his manager called BB and asked about it as well. BB told him it was a bogus deal and not to honor it. He told me he wouldn't honor it since it was considered bogus by BB.

Oh well. Shoulda moved on it last week. My own fault. I waited too long.
