(Dead) BFG 6800 OC with Far Cry, add HL2, $220 - $250 AMIR

Anyone know what TMDS transmitter it has? Is it the normal nvidia integrated one or did they opt for a silicon image or other TMDS transmitter?

I have noticed if you go to Chumbo.com you can get this card for $299.99 - $40 if you send in any working video card, too. So I guess the Best Buy one works out a tiny bit cheaper.

Decided to pull the trigger on this one...too good to let this one go. While they were out of stock in brooklyn I happened to be traveling and picked one up at the rochester store. Originally rang up as $299, then cashier says "wait up, says here you get 10% off! $269.99. Now have half-life 2, farcry, and got doom 3 for free from amazon. I think my eyeballs will melt by weeks end. God bless America...

only dual dvi 6x00s have an external one. single dvi = integrated one only.

If this is $220 with Half-Life 2, wouldn't this be a better deal than the Black Friday one at Best Buy? If HL2 itself goes for $40 or $50, would make this card like $170-$180 right?

I also got in on this deal. I went to my local best buy (Winston-Salem, NC) first thing when they opened yesterday
and grabbed the only one in stock. I also received the additional 10% without hassle. I had purchased the PNY 6800 at
COMPUSA on Black Friday. I returned it the same day due to a loose resistor floating around in the box. Long story short,
returned it for a refund because they were already out of stock. I am now glad that deal didn't work out. The PNY card
doesn't even bundle any games. This deal is a lot better.

Might as well stack on the deals:

Pick up one of the gift certificates that come with a $5 off coupon. Be sure to ask someone if it works for PC games, as some BB will only use it on console games. Keep asking till someone says yes, and remember their name if the cashier disagrees. So there is another $5. ALso, pick up the rewards card for $10 a year. It gets you $5 of every $150, so you break even on this and keep the card. Also, find a friend with world of Warcraft and take his UPC for another $10!

the %10 off i believe is for computer accessories. My cashier was just like "woah, you're right there is another discount" BTW, 2 or 3 left in the new BB in Southside: Jacksonville, Florida.

Edit: Edit: 2 other things that might be part of my problem. When I load RivaTuner (2.0 RC 15.2) it says it hasn't been tested with my drivers and to get a newer version, but AFAIK, this is the most recent. Also, when going into the NVStrap section, bit 03 and bit 12 (the ones I checked) are in a "disabled state". How do I enable them, other than putting a check mark, which is already there?

im having similar problems you are turning the card into a full 16 pipeline card with the exception that my card came at a default 12x1,6vp without me doing anything to it whatsoever. any one know the reasoning for this?

I have read threw the entire thread and anyone getting the 10% extra discount is a fluke. I have not read anywhere that there is a confirmed 10% discount. Just went to Bestbuys web site and they do not list any 10% discount either.

The 6600GT has an advantage if Video is important to you, the Video decoder on the 6800's don't work, a well known and hushed secret. It does work on the new 6600 chips.....CPU usage drops from the 95% range to under 40%.

I got the discount when i bought the card today first the cashier rung up the card and then the game then afterwards a little pop box came up showing a 10% so this is no fluke. On there website it doesn't show it since I was going to order it off the web but decided to get up early and get the card at the store.

It beats the 9800 Pro by quite a large margin, especially in OpenGL games (but any DX9 game as well).

A great example is Doom 3.
This chart does a comparison of current high-end cards. Just pay attention to the 9800XT numbers since the 9800 Pro isn't actually evaluated (and keep in mind that the 9800XT outperforms the 9800 Pro).

For DX9 comparison, here is HL2 beta runs (I haven't scoured the net for current HL2 benchmarks, so take note that this is beta only).

And while I'm at it, I might as well provide this link for a comprehensive review of the high-end cards.

Bottom line, the 6800 is a more powerful card than the 9800 Pro.

i also had this problem and on another card. seems these cards won't unlock. hopefully someone has an answer

Got the discount right at the register. It does work as posted over and over. Just go to the store. Not all deals are the same B&M and online.

Of course there are no Fry's in the state of Florida (where I am), so not sure if this would work for me, but it may for some other people.

Picked one up yesterday, thx OP. Softmod worked, it rings up as $269.99 after HL2 is scanned cuz a 10% discount is applied since HL2 is a "recommended game" or something like that according to the employee. So I guess there are a few other games that qualify for the 10% off, but only HL2 works for the rebate. The rebate form is printed out on the receipt so it's a BB rebate and not a BFG/Vivendi one. Well worth the $ over my 9800 pro.
