256MB vs 128MB doesn't really kick in until you are
running stuff at 1600x1200 with AA settings turned on, even
then it depends on the game. Check all the benchmark links
listed in the thread.

I would almost guarentee that both will void your warranty. However, they probably can't tell, espeically with the softmod. But most people here agree that if you blow up your card clocking it too high, then its your fault and you shouldn't RMA it.

i picked it up last time bestbuy had it for $250 (300- 50 instant rebate), very pleased with the card. only was unable to unlock to 12p, 6v and it overclocks to 380/800. as far as i know, i dont think bfg has a way to tell if you soft mod, but....

The BFG warranty is really insane, shows how much they stand behind their products. I thought the only thing with a lifetime warranty was a muffler...

I was able to unlock mine but the benchmarks had tons of artifacts.... hrmmm wonder if I can change drivers or anything?!

If it artifacts at stock speeds softmodded, you're pretty much out of luck. What you can try, though, is underclocking your card when it is softmodded. It's default clock is 350/700, right? Try running the card softmodded at 300/600, and see if the artifacts dissapear. If they do, there is a slim chance you can solve the artifact problem with superior cooling. Check the temps. If you do manage to solve it that way, still don't expect any overclocking. You'll probably be stuck at stock.

picked one up yesterday, and softmodded it to 16/6 I got like 1.3 fps more in Doom 3 then I overclocked the ram to 760 from 700 and left the core alone. I got like a 12 fps increase. The card seems to be memory limited, rather than pipe/core limited. Softmodding seems worthless. Good card though.

Did you notice a circle with a checkmark around it in the upper right-hand corner of the card (on the same side as the fan I think). There is a theory that these may be unlockable. Also, did yours have a sticker with A60 on it?

Also, can anyone else that was able to softmod their card comment on whether or not they have the checkmark and circle in the upper right-hand corner? Thanks!

one thing I've noticed about the fan is that perhaps it is controlled by the video card sensor?
when I boot the computer the fan gets loud until its booted into windows, then they both spin but muchmuch quiter. ... we'll see.

I just bought this card from BB. I showed four workers the coupon for $20 off a $200 purchase and all four of them said it would not be a problem to combine the $20 with the 10% since the 10% is used only on the video card and the $20 discount can be used on Hl2. When I went to the register they scanned the bar code to the coupon and it came out $0.00. Luckily, one of the people that I was talking to was a manager and went ahead and deducted $20 from Hl2!

Video Card=$270

Half Life 2=$35

-$105 rebate = $200!!!

After reading the fine print on the $20 off coupon, I don't think it should have worked. But hey, maybe it'll work for someone else too!!!

LIke I say you can always buy the card at regular price for 300 and take off the 20 so you'll get it for 280 it'll come out to 300 roughly in tax and return the card and get merchandise credit and take the 320 dollar and get the deal for 270+40

well i got in this deal... went and bought it and then read about the 20 dollar coupon so i printed it out and went back to CS, got price adjusted along with $5 dollar off gamers gift card i used be4

so its 314 - 105 rebate = $210

*hope they dont dick me on the rebate

also im gonna mess with the softmod... all the cards in my store had the a60 sticker on it, so no dice for the older model.... ill post with results soon

YMMV on the price adjustment, the same CSR pm'd the seinfeld dvds for me


also: gonna return hl2 for $50 at some point

Well I snagged this deal right after seeing the post, but after doing some reading due to some of the references to the broken OVP I believe I will return mine and look for an ATI deal instead.

Mine has the A60 sticker, but I unlocked it. Now says A1. 16x1, 6vp. It even sticks after a reboot. So, you can still get lucky I guess.

I haven't noticed artifacts, at least while playing Farcry at 1680x1050 for 30 min or so.
