Dead Bug Macro

Did some testing today with the Tamron 28-75 in macro.

Decent capabilities, but you definitely have to stop down to around f/9.5 for max sharpness.

i wonder how far you'd have to stop down to get the dof large enough to get the rest of the bug?

I was experimenting, at at 300% at f/11 diffraction was faintly visible (i'm talking 1/2 pixel dust on the bug), but nearly indistinguishable to f/9.5

at F/16 detail started to creep away.

I went down to F/22 and it was still a quality picture, and almost had the rear wing in pretty good focus, but I was going for max sharpness, and judging from the untouched side-by-side of F/22 and f/9.5, the f/9.5 is the better shot.

nice pic! cant you do focus bracketing? yea it's more work, but if you want the sharpest pic and the entire subject in focus, focus bracketing works well. But I like the pic as is

I had never heard of this. I will have to give it a try.

Seems like it might be hard with something that is alive though?

yea would be hard with something that's alive. Didnt fbb create a DIY on focus bracketing?
