Here is some experience of using my new Acer drive. I got this Acer 24x10x40 CDRW drive for over one week. At first I did not use the Nero 5.5.5.3 bundled with the drive, and downloaded the latese version of Nero 5.5.7.8 and found a crack. When burning succeed, it can write 700MB in 5'34", not very good but acceptable. I totally burned over 20 CD-Rs, over half of them actually failed. The error messages are like: No seek complete, SCSI target error, unable to perform end track, etc. My computer was not bad, with enough processing power, RAM and fast hard driver. With DMA enabled in windows 2000, the CPU usage never went up 5% and Seamless Link protection never happened. I was totally upset with this Acer driver, I want to return this, but I already sent out mail-in rebate. I tried to contact Cendyne technique support, the phone call never went through, emails never get reply. I was so mad. Suddenly I was thinking that I probably should try another software. Then I installed CloneCD 2.5.5.2, and tried again, you know what, I burned several disks and never got a fail disk. Maybe the crack is not good? I installed the bundled Nero 5.5.53 to replace the 5.5.7.8, and everything changed, I burned some more disks, all of them succeed except one of them I used a 16X CD-R burned at 24X speed, it failed at the end of disk. So, if you got an Acer CDRW drive, and did not use the bundled Nero, and got a lot of fails, maybe you should try the original one. Hope that will be helpful.
