I'm having a peculiar problem with the Acer 24x burner. Whenever I burn, I cannot browse on the internet. IRC still works, but I can't browse until the cd has completed the burning process.

Anyone else experiencing this?

The rebate form,UPC barcode,Serial number barcode and a copy of the receipt/packing slip is needed for this Cendyne or any of the other Cendynes listed for rebates with OM as per OM's Mail-In Rebate Directory March 2002

I went to OM today to see if they still had any, the price was $69.99 - $10 MIR. They didn't have any in stock but the price and rebate confused me... I dunno...

Are you sure a was the 24 x CenDyne and not the 16x cenDyne drive or maybe the Hi-Val brand 24x drive that is in this weeks ad for $69.99.?

Thanks for the deal.

I got an AOpen 2440, and it works fine for me. The digital audio out works fine (it didn't on my old Ricoh 8X4X24). Nice and quiet too.

well, i got the cendyne drive, and i didn't keep up with this thread so after installing it on two different computers and getting the same error (at 37% of burning process it would stop cold), i came back to this thread to see what was goign on and i determined that i had been shipped the acer drive. Called office max near me, and they all had 3 or 4 cendynes in stock. However they were all acers except for one store that had some verbatims. Went to exchange it and the manager gave me another acer one, and i told him if he could please find the one that didn't have p's in the serial number; he was puzzled so i gave him a print out on how to identify the drivesand he didn't believe me. So he went back and got the only one that didn't have the infamous p on the serial number and i brought it home, installed it, and haven't had a coaster yet. Thanks for the thread guys!!!! Cause i was ready to ship it back to office max.

I returned the 32X I got yesterday, went for a 24X, yesterday they had some LiteOn units, today I got an Acer.. Guess I'll return it, I need a drive that will do SD2.

Here is a bit from a review of the 20X acer at CDR-Info: Of course there is a important feature that will attract users eye: SD2 support. The Acer 2010 is the fastest SD2 recorder ,at least for now, and that gives an extra advantage over the competition. If you need SD2 support and can live with the drive problems then go for it.

They said the drive pretty much sucks other than this, does anyone know if the 24X Acer will do SD2 copy ????

I bought this this drive for a friend as a gift, I think I got a acer because the serial number is more than 20 numbers and it has pwp in the end, but when I opened it for my friend, the label attached to top of the drive inside doesn't state anything that it's an acer. Can someone give me some information on this? can someone take a picture of the label of the acer drive and post it here, please? thanks, I really appreciate it.

Here is some experience of using my new Acer drive. I got this Acer 24x10x40 CDRW drive for over one week. At first I did not use the Nero 5.5.5.3 bundled with the drive, and downloaded the latese version of Nero 5.5.7.8 and found a crack. When burning succeed, it can write 700MB in 5'34", not very good but acceptable. I totally burned over 20 CD-Rs, over half of them actually failed. The error messages are like: No seek complete, SCSI target error, unable to perform end track, etc. My computer was not bad, with enough processing power, RAM and fast hard driver. With DMA enabled in windows 2000, the CPU usage never went up 5% and Seamless Link protection never happened. I was totally upset with this Acer driver, I want to return this, but I already sent out mail-in rebate. I tried to contact Cendyne technique support, the phone call never went through, emails never get reply. I was so mad. Suddenly I was thinking that I probably should try another software. Then I installed CloneCD 2.5.5.2, and tried again, you know what, I burned several disks and never got a fail disk. Maybe the crack is not good? I installed the bundled Nero 5.5.53 to replace the 5.5.7.8, and everything changed, I burned some more disks, all of them succeed except one of them I used a 16X CD-R burned at 24X speed, it failed at the end of disk. So, if you got an Acer CDRW drive, and did not use the bundled Nero, and got a lot of fails, maybe you should try the original one. Hope that will be helpful.
