This might be of help for some. If you purchased the CenDyne 24x10x40 during a previous sale on this drive at office max as I did, now is the time for Amex PM. When I bought it it was on sale for $119.99. I used a $25 coupon bringing it down to $94.99. It had a $40 rebate bringing it down to $54.99. Now the $25 PM brings it down to $29.99. I just made it in under the 60 day limit, but turns out to be a great deal.

website shows neither of these two drives-- apparently you must purchase at B&M.... why would the store honor the coupon code if the coupon code is not useable with these drives since they're not offered online? unless the store manager isn't aware of that fact.

Online it says item not currently available.

Just got back from my local Office Max. Every one they have in stock is the 20-24 digits with letters indicating Acer. Krud. Needless to say I came home empty handed.

Better luck to all of you

I just bought these two drives. Does anyone else find the trays open slowly? It goes fast until it's almost open, then it slows down. Both the DVD and the CDRW do the same thing so I guess it's probably normal. I got the LTR-24102B CDRW and the LTD163 DVD drive. Both show up as "lite-on" in my device manager.

can you give use some of the information (like the serial number) on the outside of DVD-ROM the box with the Lite-on mfg drive inside, so we tell which box has the Lite-on DVD drive inside it.

I couldn't find one on the outside of the DVD box. The manager was kind of jerk at my store. When I asked for a CDRW with the right s/n on it he said they're all the same. I had to take him over to the display unit which was a lite-on (luckily) and show him the difference. With the DVD drive I couldn't find a s/n on the outside of the display box or the box I bought. I think that's why no one is answering that question. On the inside the drive was clearly marked LTD163.

One more thing... On another msg board I read that you're more likely to get a lite-on DVD if you live on the east coast. I live on the east coast and got a lite-on DVD first try. However, this might not be true as I just read it in someone else's post.

It depends on what Sony model you get. The CR-X175A1 (24X) model has all the same features as the lite-on burner. You'd have to make sure you get the right model. IMO the lite-on is the one to go for if you can get the coupons etc. to work.

A guy posted that he was able to use a $15 off $50 Office Depot coupon at a OfficeMax store to make his final cost for the drive $34.99.

Hi All.
I just went to the OM store in Concord,CA. The sign on the shelf said they were out stock, I asked the manager and he found some in the back. They have 12 digit #'s. Guess thats a good thing.

Well my brother went and got the dvd-rom and cd/rw today and the cd/rw is the Acer so I'll have to take it back tomorrow and try to find the LiteOn or Verbatim. The dvd-rom was a LiteOn though.

Was the 12 digit serial number on the Lite-on DVD all number (no letters) and was there any other information on the outside of the box to identify it as a Lite-on mfg DVD drive.

all numbers...the boxes I saw all started 12XXXXXXXXXX. There were also boxes that hada 14 digit serial with numbers and letters. Not sure who makes those drives.

Are you sure you are talking about the DVD-ROM drive and not the CD-RW drive, when you say that it said "Smart Burn" Technology on the sticker with the SN???

Can I assume that the Acer drive is junk? That's what I got. There was one other on the shelf, but I couldn't remember the S/N rule that was mentioned this week in a similar post.

I'm gonna try the cdrw with the kypher 50cd pak, so it becomes $79.98, $20 short for the $25off100 coupon.
Anyone found a >$20 item FREE after MIR to bring total over $100?

Another question, does it always say "smart-burn" near the s/n on the box for a lite-on? Are there lite-ons without "smart-burn" printed? This way I'll just ask to check for smart-burn instead.
