(DEAD) CenDyne 32x12x40 (#20146450) for $129.99 - $40 rebate - $25 coupon (applies only towards your first order) = $64.99 at OfficeMax

Link to CenDnye 32x

Link to rebate

For OfficeMax coupons do a search on Google.com key word "OfficeMax coupons"

Also Staples has the 32x CenDyne on sale for $99.94, so if you can find a manager who doesn't know the OfficeMax PM rules it could be possible to PM the Staples price and get it for $30 cheaper. YMMV Link to Staples 32x CenDyne thread

To buy in-store use $25 off $100 coupon in the store print-out the page with a $25 off $100 coupon on it, or print the page showing the price of the drive with the $25 coupon discount taken off the price and take that to your local store, and ask your one of those friendly OfficeMax manages if he will accept the coupon the $25 off $100 coupon, so you can purchase the drive from him. This has worked many time before, for a number of poeple, but it up the to manage to decide to accept the $25 coupon or not.

Another idea is to use the staples $30 off $150 printable coupon at OfficeMax stores (they are suppose to take them), and get the CenDyne 32x drive for $59.99 after adding $20.01 worth of items to get total over $150, like :
HI-Val CD-Rs 100 pack $34.99 - $30 MIR = $4.99 (20068784) Link to rebate
Belkin Jewel Cases 10 PK $3 - $3 MIR = $0.00 (02214650)
Cyber Acoustics 2-Piece Speaker $9.00 - $9.00 = $0.00 (14267161)

So far poeple who own the CenDyne 32x drive have identified the rebadged mfgs as Lite-on, verbatim (Rebadged Lite-ons) and Mitsumi (16Mb Buffer and supports the 'Mt. Rainier' format).

To identify which rebadged drive is in the Cendyne box look at the serials # on the top right label at the back of the box.

Lite-on 32x mfg drive have 12 digits, no letters - Sample (123456789012)
Verbatim 32x mfg drive have 12 digits, no letters - Sample (123456789012) (seem to be rebadged Lite-on 32x drives)
Mitsumi 32x drives have 22 digits mostly numbers -Sample (CR-123ATE45678A12QH9012). Also says 16BM buffer on the box

Here's a head to head comparison of the Lite-on and Mittsumi 32x drives Link to 32X roundup

Looks like another great chance for those who missed out on getting 24x Liteon.

Anyone know what is the real-world time difference for 650MB on a 32x vs 24x?

When I did the big hunt across OM B&M's in New Jersey for the Lite-On/CenDyne 24X burners, whenever a 32X burner was put in front of me, it had a 12-digit serial number. 12-digit serials on 24X burners were a lot harder to find. This was a few weeks back, when the 24X hot deal was $45.

Around NJ, anyway, I think Lite-On/CenDyne 32X burners will be a lot easier to find.

Has anyone verified these use the same FW as the 24x drives? I would think the Lite-On 24X FW won't work.

just got my issue of MaximumPC and it looks like they gave the 32x Lite-on a 9 / 10 Kick ass product rating.. also give high marks for audio ripping speed

They also say that a 32x liteon is only 12 seconds faster than a 24x Plextor.

Now back to original question.. is anyone sure that the Cendyne 32x10x40 at OM (which have all digit serial # are Lite-ons). Would be a great deal for $55

I searched OfficeMax and the drive doesn't come up. How to apply the discount code?

It would be a great deal at $55, but getting the 24x at $35 is a better bang for the buck type deal. Like mentioned in the quote, the 32x drives aren't much, if even noticably, faster than the quality 24x drives out there. Usually I spend the extra $20 bucks and get the fastest thing you can. However, in this instance $20 is 57% more money. 57% more money for around 5-10% increase in speed. With that said, I would go with the 24x if you are looking value. If you have your heart set on Lite-On and can't find the 24x, the 32x is still a smokin' deal. If you want the fastest, you'll have to go to the 40x for a good bit more money.

Way to stay on top of things MysticMan1. Keep the deals comin'.

The performance difference between 24x &32x is very little (by the time the 32x writer finishes, just get up, stretch & yawn for a few seconds, wipe the tears off your face, and the 24x will be done). I have the 32x while my wife has 24x.

I bought a Cendyne 32x at OfficeMax last Sunday. I was hesitant ('cause I've struck out 2 of 3 times trying to get a LiteOn in a 24x Cendyne box), but bought it due the the 12-digit serial number on the box. The drive inside WAS a LiteOn, so it looks like the same S/N scheme of the 24x drives applies to the 32x models, too.

Can someone please answer this: I bought this drive for $130 minus $30 rebate (it has $30 rebate where the 24x has a $40 rebate). Does anyone know if OfficeMax will refund the $20 difference between last weekend's price and the sale price?

I think what it all boils down to is if you were able to get the Lite-on Cendyne 24x. If you got an ACER 24x (cendyne) like me, and you can't find anymore lite-ons and you want a lite-on. Then you have to spend the $20 extra and get the 32x cendyne(lite-on smart burn) version.

This is a good chance to get a lite-on, since Acer hasn't produced a 32x12x40 drive yet, right?

JameyF and ScrapSilicon: No, this drive does not use the same firmware as the 24x model. My Cendyne 32x is actually a LiteOn LTR-32123S (with label and all), and it uses the 32x firmware. Do not fear this, as the 32x LiteOn has the same capabilities as the 24x model. Firmware updates are available at the LiteOn website ( http://www.liteon.com/ or http://www.liteonit.com.tw/ ), provided you end up with a LiteOn drive.

Here is a review of the Cendyne 32x!

<< Yes, that is the right picture. The current version of the Lightning II is actually an OEM ...... >>

They actually reveal who the real maker of the drive is. But I will let you read it for yourself. This is a great deal for $54.99.

orion19981, thanks for the reply. I just called OM and they told me that they would refund the difference (no mention of 115%, though). I'm glad that the sale came around, 'cause I didn't really want to pay $130 before rebate for this drive anyways. I just bought it because OM was out of the 24x Cendyne models with 12-digit s/n and I needed a drive immediately. Heck, I may buy a second unit and sell my 4 month old 24x LiteOn.

It seems as though those of us who got the 24x CenDyne last week from OM will not be able to particpate in this rebate.

Is that how you read it too?

I hope I can't qualify...I've got 2 plextor 24x and 2 Lite-On 24x drives. I only have 3 computers to put them in now. I just couldn't resist getting an extra from this week's $35 drive. This week alone I've bought a MB, 2 CDRW drives, 6 rounded cables, lots of networking stuff to finish wiring my house, and I still have stuff to buy! This forum is saving me so much money, it's sending me to the poor house. PLEASE, stop the deals just for a week so I can catch up

Thank God for the $220 in rebates I received this week. That will help cover some of it. I wonder if the USPS realizes how much mail is generated here off of rebate claims?

If I didn't get the 24x Cendyne deal last week for $35 I would definitely jump on this. I'm still in awe on how fast the Lite-On 24x is - I can burn a full 700MB in 4:08 compared to my old HP 8100 which takes four times as long. Anyway, a 15 sec gain going to the 32x12x40 is no biggie for me - that's like a bum scratch and a burp. I'm extremely pleased with my 24x Lite-On.

I should take a break and stop going to this forum...my wallet hasn't recovered yet.
