I'll have to agree with Scrappy on this one. These speakers are worth exactly what you end up paying after the rebate.

I got my Lite-On Model LTR-32123S with 2mb buffer memory and burn protection technology. Got it with $25.00 off $100.00 online coupon at OM B&M. The manager let me use it probably because I asked about it in a nice way. Final cost after rebate for me would be $60.00, $39.00 dollars cheaper than the
16x10x40 I bought 7 months ago. good luck to everyone trying to get this at the B&m with the online coupon. May the force be with you. hehe

So when I asked my local OM manager "Are you going to let me use the f-ing coupon or not?" and he turned me down it was because I didn't ask nicely enough? Damn. I've got to improve my social skills!

Got my 32x today at the Omaha OM, but its a Mitsumi (haven't opened it yet, but it has the 16MB buffer memory and 480ATE... S/N). The manager did accept my printed out $25 off $100 sheet with no problem, no questions. Don't know if I should try and take it back to see if I can get a Lite-On model or not. I didn't ask the salesperson to look for a specific serial # on the box, so don't know if they even have them.

I got my 32x rebadged Verbatim drive today and I think I need a DOS flash firmware in order to flash it into a Liteon. Can someone please provide me with a link for the 32x Liteon drive!

Thanks in advance

Is there any way to determine if the drive is a Lite-On or Verbatium?

You can get the firmware/support at Lite-On

Lite-On seems to be the 'better' of the two drives (Mitsumi/Lite-On) but they are both pretty good units. If you can get either one with the coupon and rebate, it's a HOT Deal. BTW for an earlier comment on time to copy protected CDs - check out CloneCD's site and the reviews at cdrinfo. The units can read and write many of the schemes but it can take a long time.......

You guys who are talking about flashing the Verbatim 32x drive with that DOS program, as far as I know, that DOS program has only been used on the Verbatim 24x drive. I haven't heard anyone say they have uesd it to successfully flash the Verbatim 32x drive to a Lite-on 32x drive. I'm not saying it wouldn't work, I'm just letting you know you might be one of the first to try it out on the 32x version.

Doesn't most firmware loader test the existing firmware before burning a new one?

Hope it's a Mitsumi. Thank you guys for helping out on this deal.

I went to the B&M and got got two drives with 12 digit serial number (as "insurance" for the ordered ones). They are both Lite-On. Here are some other infos. Maybe we can figure out which ones are Verbatum.

Serial Number: 12 digits, starting with "2"
UPC: 6-83728-00107-0
Part #: CDICD00107

Data Buffer Memory: 2MB
Access Time: 95ms

Could someone with a Verbatum drive compare these numbers?

hi!

i had just got the 32x lite on today, i set it up as a online order but where i live there is no dis. center so they ship from local store, i went to pick it up and asked them to check going by 12 num. he said there were just 2 rest were alpha+num, any idea if there are more codes that arent just first time orders? for me thats an extra hot deal to order and get it few minutes later, and have the option of paying cash, i really hate to use my cc

boa, I believe the part #'s for all the cendyne 32/12/40 drives will be the same. I don't know about the UPC's, but mine matches yours exactly. I also got a lite-on with a 12 digit serial #, starting with a '2'.

Received my burner today.
I placed a phone order using the $25 off coupon.
On the back of the box is a 12 digit numerical serial number.
Inside was a unit that says Lite-On on the top.
I hope this is actually a Lite-On.

Thanks for this hot deal.

Got a Lite-On drive, mfg date feb 2002
ordered online and used coupon code.
delivery was by UPS, so it was pointless in giving out the print out of the code to the driver, so if they charge my cc the $25 extra, I will have to go bust some CSR's head

Love that sig. Hail to the chief!

All you guys getting in on this deal is making me want to jump, but I got in on the 24x twice last week. I thought the 12x plextor I got a year ago was going to be it until DVD-RW drives were standardized and under $200.

I must resist....Must resist.

Woohoo, just got mine today (along with a bunch of other crap... 100 SpinX CD-R's, a CanoScan N670U, and a Panasonic 2.4GHz GigaRange cordless phone).

The serial numer on the box and inside is 12 digit numeric. Mine doesn't say "Liteon" anywhere on the sticker on top (in fact it says CenDyne), but it does list the model number as an LTR-32123S, which matches up with the Liteon drive. I'm too lazy to peel back the sticker as I'm 100% sure that this is a Liteon anyways. Thanks for the deal!

Most here think so. I personally like Nero better in almost all respects. There are a couple of quirks that are easier to bypass in EZ CD creator, but I like to use Nero much better because it was the first I used that could burn MP3's in the right format needed to display long text without using Joliet which isn't supported on my MP3 player. Using EZ CD creator, I could only get 8.3 file naming to show up on the player.
