I got one today, but all they had were Mitsumi's. This is to replace a piece-of-crap Liteon 40x. Is there anything cool/neat/good that I can do with this Mitsumi?

I just picked up one of the Verbatims at the OM in Riverhead, NY (Long Island). I used the $10 coupon since they said they wouldn't take the Staples. They had Imation 50 pack CD-R's in the flyer for 12.99 plus an 11 rebate for a grand total of $1.99. The flyer showed them as 16X capable but my spindle of 32X rated CD-R's rang up as part of the rebate deal so I'm pretty pleased. Thanks to all for another great deal.

Check your total it should be $29.87
You're right it is in fact $29.87 after the MIR.

Thanks for the post. Great Deal!

I just burned a disc from an image that was 62min long. and it took 3:12 minutes. Dat's Nice!

Drive is quiet too.

So, can we use Lite-On firmware without any issues I assume?

BTW, some people here are confused about where the serial number is. Here's a picture of where I had to cut out the UPC and serial number for the rebate.

I tried to order online but it says item is backordered for the CR_RW. I also checked the rebate fine print and it says postmarked within 15 days of purchase. So if I order today they won't send it in a couple of weeks maybe. That means that my rebate won't work? What do I do?

Is the Verbatim drive a LTR-32123S or a LTR-32123W?
Umm, neither. Those are Lite-On model numbers.

Check the original post for clarification.

Thanks for the deal, I just upgraded to the lite-on from my old 8 speed Philips. Everything seems to be working great, the only problem I see is that now I want to re-record every CD I own with CD Text so they all show up in my 300 disk changer......decisions, decisions. Thanks again for the deal.

Sorry. Let's clarify. Does the Verbatim drive support Mt. Rainier? Can you flash the firmware to make it burn faster?

Well I picked up my Cendyne / Lite-on LTR32123S this afternoon. I had a hell of a time getting it out of those OM weasels. I picked up a few of the freebies and went to the checkout to ask for the CDRW. The cashier checks with one of the techy guys and comes back and says they are out. I start complaining about how they are always out of this type of sale stuff and it had only been a few hours since they opened. Then I asked to speak to the manager. I start complaining to him and ask him how many they had in stock. He said two, one was sold when they opened and the other was on hold for a call in. I kept complaining to the manager that this happens all the time and I wanted one of those drives. The techy guy goes over to the computer terminal and pecks at it a little then turns around and smiles and says they have a bunch in the back (surprise, surprise). So he goes back into the lockup room and brings out a CDRW. I checked the SN and found it was one of the Mitsumis with the 16MB buffer. I thought for a moment then decided to ask if he had any with a 12 digit serial number. I explained to him about Cendyne repackaging other manufactures and why I was looking for the 12 digit SN. Well, he goes back into the lockup room and, low and behold, he comes out with a box with a 12 digit SN. So I decided to get the Lite-on instead of the mitsumi. That 16MB buffer sure looked nice though. So I start checking out and gave the cashier my Stapes $15 off $75. They say they could not accept it. Said it was in their "policy". Gave me some cr@p about not being able to apply other coupons to items that have rebates and are on sale. I asked to see the policy and the manager could not find it (surprise, surprise). I told him I would call corporate tommorrow. I did find on the Officemax.com website they they, the .com, accept other coupons but it does not say anything about the B&M policy.

I'm going to call corporate tommorrow anyway cause of the cr@p they pulled with the no stock and not letting me use the Staples coupon. This is the same store that I caught a few months ago hiding sale items behind the front counter and telling customers they were out of that item. I was the last customer to check out on a Sunday night and saw it with my own eyes. :Q

Hmmm, I am confused why people are confused about the Verbatims. Aren't all the Verbatims LTR-32123S's?? Mine has Verbatim software and "Verbatim" in red letters on the front bezel, but it also says "LTR-32123S " on the sticker attached to the drive. Are there different Verbatim's?? Just curious...

HMmmm Mine is exactly the same, EXCEPT for teh fact that the model says VBT321240A, not LT anything....

So is this not a rebadged Lite ON? I don't want to flash if its gonan kill this drive....

Did anyone flash their verbatim yet? In my same circumstance?
And what is updated? Maybe there is no point in flashing verbatims.

ya you have a verbatim
flashing wont kill your drive but it might render it unable to be used if you flash it wrong. HOWEVER you always have the chance of overwriting the ROM and trying again. Make a backup of the original verbatim rom also. I say go for it.
I got in on the last deal with this drive, couldnt be any more happy with my flashed verbatim

My drive model LTR-32123S has verbatim on the bezel as well. There is a very recent release of firmware for this drive from Cendyne's web site. I've linked the file below. This will flash your drive to version "X8S6". My drive had X8S2. The release date for this firmware is 6-14-2002.

Link to Verbatim 32x latest firmware X8S6 Only use this firmware for CenDyne drives with the Verbatim logo on the Bezel.

Frankly, you don't have to use the Lite-On firmware if you don't want. I'd bet that this verbatim firmware has probably the same files as the firmware for the Lite-On's site firmware anyway. It's not like you're going to make coasters with Verbatims firmware.

I scored one of the LTR-S today after going to 3 OM. All they had at the first two was opti-rite (which I knew I didn't want). The last store only had one LTR left (many opti-rites), and (quoting Clint Eastwood) in the middle of all the excitement I forgot to use Staples $15 coupon at checkout. After 10 minutes I realized my mistake and went back, and they thankfully gave me $15 off.

I've since burned many perfect CD's....

Just a heads up to anyone who is using either the Imation CDRs or the Phone to boost them up to $100.

Both of these rebates must be postmarked within 7 days of purchase and the phone requires the original receipt.

So get those rebate forms in the mail

Whiterice, I don't have any experience with that brand, never had one nor sold them before. Try putting their name in @google and you might find some reviews.
