I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but remember the recent staples maxtor 80gb 8mb cache deal? $30 instant savings via a 5 digit code, and nothing additional could be stacked with it, such as dollars off ($xx off $xxx), free items, when ordered online? or am I really mistaken here? I'd like to get this deal as much as the next guy of course!

Again, I REMIND everybody...

Staples/Officemax only allows pricematching OR coupon. One or the other...NOT BOTH

If you dont believe me, read the policy at staples or officemax's site (it dont matter which, they are the same policy word for word, just the example prices are different)

That not always true, I did a PM on this drive with Staples PM'g OfficeMax a few months ago and I used a $50 coupon too, the trick is to order the drive first then do the PM, just make sure that the total after the PM doesn't go below the total you need to use the coupon.

Does anyone what the software applications that come with the 4X Cendyne are?

I bought a Sony DRU-500A the other day and I am trying to decide if I want to return it and save myself $200 with the Cendyne. I really need some good backup software though...

Anyone know anything about this? It would really suck if it was true...

I am almost positive from what my memory serves from that deal on the drive...

I think (flame me to no end if I am wrong), now anything with an instant off code isn't going to allow anything else added to it on the .com site.... IOW, no stacking if you have an instant off.

so you'd get the MIR and the instant off, or the coupon plus the MIR, but not the instant off, MIR and $20 off $500..

I hope to glub I'm wrong.

It looks like (from reading at FW) that Staples no longer accepts coupon codes or even copies of coupons. They require originals. If anyone can help me here, please PM. Thanks.

You are wrong, I know that on the last Staples deal for the Cendyne DVD-R/RW Drive the instant rebate was not a coupon code and there's no reason to think it will be different this time.

In fact here is a link to that old deal. LINK

Here is the software that comes with the Cendyne for anyone else who wants to know...

"The new CenDyne 4X DVD Recorder comes with easy-to-use Sonic(TM) MyDVD 4(TM) DVD authoring and recording software that allows consumers to archive their VHS home movies or create their own movies and burn them onto DVD media. The MyDVD software lets users capture video clips, transfer video, create and edit movies, add titles and other effects to movies and video, and burn images to a disc quickly and easily.

The drive also reads and writes CD-R and CD-RW media and provides buffer under-run protection and support for CD-RW media. Nero Express, Nero Vision Express and InCD software also ship with the new drive for CD creation."

Uhh.. Maybe I'm blind, but I don't see anything at that link about a Staples deal.

Just a follow up on the software, the README.txt file for the Sonic myDVD software states that it does not support analog video capture but that an upgrade can be purchase to allow that. It only does DV capture.

Most of the Office Max coupons are for "first order" only. Maybe return customers are having luck with these coupons, but I much prefer the Staples and Office Depot coupons which usually don't bother with first order restraints.

One other thing about the instant $40 off coupon. If I remember correctly, last time Of.Max had this deal, the $40 instant coupon did not show online, only BM. Myself, I think $169 AR is a pretty good deal all by itself.

Here is a quote from an Office Max online coupon:

"This is a one-time offer that applies only towards your first order at
www.officemax.com between 9/15/02 and 1/31/03."

Virtually all their coupons have this "first order" detail.

Went to my OfficeMax today, pulled a tag for the 2x drive (advertised at $269.98)

went to the desk and they handed me a 4x drive, charged me (like 291 with tax).

planning on PM'ing on sunday, plus rebate.

...wonder if the rebate will work with the 4x/105 UPC?

The rebate should work because the Cendyne rebates also includes the 4X model.

Mystic man: The Maxtor deal (80gb) was just a couple of weeks ago, and when you went to put it in your cart, it displayed a coupon code 5 digits that you had to enter before checkout.. The coupon system would NOT take any additional dollars off coupon codes, nor could you get anything free... (duffle bag, etc..)..

That's what I'm going by.

The last two really hot deals at staples got sold out in my area (probably thanks to my fellow ATHT'ers). Anyone know how soon after midnight you can buy one of these and have it count? It would suck to get the rebate rejected because you bought it at mightnight in your time zone but the server out in California timestamps it at 11pm the previous day.

After looking at some of this week sale items with instant saving that do use coupon codes you could be right, but there are ways to get around that, like buying the drive before Sunday it $299.98 - $50 coupon = $249.98 then PM OfficeMax on Sunday for $229.98 - $77 = $152.98 ($299.98 110% PM = around $77) - $50 rebate = 102.98 + tax of course YMMV. even if they consider the $50 rebate or the $50 coupon in the PM you still get it for $152.98

Or buy it in the store where they don't use a instant saving code, $299.99 - $50 IR - $50 MIR - $30 off $150 email coupon = $169.98. If you do a PM to OfficeMax = $147.98 ($249.98 110% PM to OM's $229.98 = around $22) again YMMV

Or buy it from OfficeMax.com $129.98

DVD-R media can cost as little as .61 each for 1x speed blanks. -RW blanks go for around $1.00. 2x -R media is around $1.00 ea.

and 4x -R media starts around $1.79 ea.
