When I ordered from Staples this morning, I started the purchase process and a box popped up and said this item was now "5 day delivery" and not the original "1 day." I chose to continue and received a confirmation e-mail a few minutes after completing the order. No e-mail since then.

Here is my experience:

I called my local Officemax to see if they had stock. The girl says no they don't have any. I ask her to check other stores and she transfers me to the guy in electronics. I can tell immediately that this guy will be helpful. I ask him to check on the DVDRW drive in the ad, and I am looking for the one that is 4X. He goes and checks to see if they have some in the store. He gets back on the phone, and says he has the last one in his hands and it's 4X. I drive up there ,and the girl I talked to first is running customer service. I bite my tongue and explain that they are holding a DVDRW drive for me. She calls the guy I talked to from electronics, and he brings out the old DVR-104 model. I almost cry, but instead I show him the print out of the take one card provided by MysticMan1. He then understands the difference and goes back in the store room. Triumphantly he returns with the Cendyne 4X DVR-105. Success and it rings up for $229. Since I had $135 worth of gift cards I wanted to purchase from Officemax so Staples was not a good option for me.

I need some media so off to Office Depot where I pickup the Imation DVD-R 5 pack for $12 and some Memorex DVD-RW 5 pack for $20. Best Buy wanted $35 for the same Memorex DVD-RW 5 pack. Anybody used any Ritek DVD-R 4X 4.7GB discs in there A05? ALLMEDIAOUTLET.COM has a 25 pack for $48 ($1.92 each). This looks like a good deal for DVD-Rs.

Thanks MysticMan1 for the pictures and links!!!!!!!!

They are still in stock on-line for my area (L. A.), but with three days shipping.
This sale will run for 2 weeks so they should get more in stock before the sale ends on 2-1.
You can buy one in the store using a Staples $30 off $150 email coupon for $169.94, if you can get them to PM the OfficeMax $229.99 price on the 4x your total with the coupon would be $149.94.

I'm really considering picking one of the 4X drives up in the day or so but....somewhere I saw spec's that say it's not compatible with PCI graphics cards? this might be more of a tech question but...why would that be? and if my GeForce2 PCI card has DVD decoder stuff on it already, does it not matter? anyway....

Has anybody got this drive working on a PC with no AGP support? thanks

Got in on this deal today. I was going to try to order online to get it cheaper, but by the time i checked it OM was saying OOS and staples said 5 day delivery time instead of 1 day. So I went to the OMAX right down the street and they had NONE left, but as i was leaving the manager said she had one that she was holding but she didn't need to hold it anymore or something. I had a 25 off 75 OD coupon (only one i could find quick) that they accepted. So my deal was $229.99 - $25 = $204.99 + tax (around $12) = $217 - $50 MIR = $167. Could have done better, but I'm just glad i was able to grab one of these things today, and not wait for an online order only to get a cancellation notice by email due to the fact that they were hammered with 10000 orders for this today

Total was 196.xx - $50 rebate makes it $146 with no PM. Can't wait to "back up" my DVD movies I have sopranos and godfather dvd sets that need to be protected from damage via usage.

Yes, my PC does not have AGP...only PCI graphics. And the Pioneer A05/Cendyne 105 works fine. As a matter of fact, I've tried several models of IDE DVD burners with no problems.

my OM is out of sendyne, so they give a verbatim 2.4x dvd+R for $219 with $40 rebate. After their $50 online coupon, it's $130 + tax. Now it's decision which one I should keep, Cendyne or Verbatim. Any input?

depends on your preference, DVD-R or DVD+R...

DVD-R is the better choice imho since media is cheaper...DVD+R creators "claim" it's superior to DVD-R, but i've yet to see any real-world proof of that.

Ordered one Yesterday from Staples... hoping I don't get that OOS Email anytime soon.

Now I'm looking for cheap media...
This Site has Princos for $0.60 and Riteks for $0.79 each.

and THIS Site has Princos for $0.58, Lead Data for $0.65 and Riteks for $0.79 (Plus Free Shipping!)

Of these brands, can anyone comment on which media is better than the other?

Also, anyone know where else I might find good & cheap media?

I bought a 25-pack of the silver/purple Riteks from Meritline, and they'll only burn at 1X on my Pioneer DVR-105. This is with 1.0 firmware, though I am not aware of any upgrades (or hacks), just yet.

Anyone know which (inexpensive) media burns at 2X or 4X? Right now, 1X isn't such a big deal, because I'm using the drive to run backups on computers over the LAN. I'm not sure if the data trasfer rate could keep up at the 2X or 4X burning speed.

I got the 105 last week and have burned flawlessly on 1X Ritek's (at 1X). I've got the 1.21 firmware and it does NOT burn these at 2x. I did try some Ritek 4X and they burned just fine at 4X. Can't wait for those prices to come down!

PC Club B&M has a 25 pack/spindle of DVD-R's on sale for $19.99 if anybody needs them right away. My PC Club is OOS, but they said I can order online and pick them up at the store when they come in stock later this week.
