The Staples B&M manager and sales associate were being SOB's. They wouldn't let me combine the $30 off $150 in store coupon and the pricematch to Microcenter. I had to choose one or the other. They were also hesitant about the pricematch.

So I went to OfficeMax B&M. They substituted the Cendyne 4x or the Verbatim dvd+rw (not sure what speed it is) for the 2x because they were out of the 2x. I chosed the Cendyne 4x dvd-rw. And the manager honored the $50 off $250 officemax online coupon .

$229.99 4X DVD-RW drive
+ $9.00 x 3 I/O magic CD-R's (limit one rebate per household, I'm using 3 other addresses, & 3 receipts)
___________
$256.99
- $50.00 coupon
_____________
$206.99 total
- $50.00 dvd-rw drive MIR
- $27 cd-r MIR
_____________
$129.99 final price

I'm glad I went to Officemax. No hassle and a better price. Screw Staples.

Thanks MysticMan, ordered one from Staples this morning for $218.43 delivered or $168.43 after $50 rebate. Just checked and the order status is showing "items not available" but I haven't received an order cancelation email yet. Oh well, maybe next time

I checked around for the best CD-R media and it looks like the Ritek 4x at Hypermicro is the way to go Linky

im gonna be hella pissed if they dont ship these drives, i already bought media... heh

checked order status again today, actually, I've been checking order status every hour practically since I ordered. Finally get this.
Scheduled Delivery Date: 01/22/03 Shipping Method : UPS
FREE FLYER SENTRY SAF 499683 each 1 Shipped
CENDYNE 4X INTERNAL D 499683 $249.94 each 1 $249.94 Shipped
BG Z3 NEW 499683 each 1 Shipped

It does further show that the $50 off worked as well

Since its UPS the drive will probably show up in Feb after it has made a trip to Mexico and has tire tracks all over the box, but I was really thinking they were gonna cancel the orders.

Thanks again Anandtech.

Hello Folks,

Staples both Online and my local store are Out Of Stock for Cendyne DVR-105 (4 Speed).

I visited my local OfficeMax store with a copy of Staples Online catalog page for item #499683 (Cendyne DVR-105) reflecting the 249.94 price.

http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/SKU.asp?BCFlag=False&PageType=1&SKU=499683

I requested the OfficeMax store manager to 115% price match for a total price of $221.19 at the cash register. I am able to receive mail-in rebate for after rebate price of $171.19.

Not the best price that other form members have received for the Cendyne DRV-105 (4 speed) but all my transaction were done in person with limited amount of hassle and I have my Cendyne DVR-105 in my hand.

Regards,
BeLooken

Just arrived via UPS 163.09 incl. tax after rebate. Filling out rebate stuff after I make sure it works and all.

*doing happy dance*

I was a tad worried when the order and zip weren't matching and all, but another hot deal.

If you are doing a Staples rebate, I highly recommend starting the rebate process online. This way at least the rebate company knows your rebate information is in the mail.

My Staples order was also cancelled. Very phony excuse, because they expect stock less than one week from now, Jan 27, and yet they thought the best thing to do was to simply cancel my order and if I want one later, re-order. Maybe at that point the Staples coupon and/or $249 price might not be in place anymore. Since when is it a big deal waiting one extra week for something out of stock temporarily? Up until now, I kind of liked Staples, not anymore.

Got this e-mail today:

Dear Staples Customer,

In regards to order # xxxxxxxxxx, item IM1 629206 (499683) Cendyne 4x
Internal DVD-R/RW Drive was not available for shipping, at this time an exact substitute is not available. We expect the original item to be back in stock approximately 01/27/03. You can place a new order by going to Staples.com or by calling us at 1-800-333-3330, when placing your new order please reference order xxxxxxxxxx. We apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused.

Thank you
Staples Operations Support Department

So I called Staples to determine if my order was cancelled. It's technically NOT CANCELLED; however, the item is no longer scheduled to ship, so it's as good as cancelled. The CSR told me I'll need to re-order (when the item's back in stock) if I want to receive the item. On the positive side, she told me that when I re-order, even if the $50 coupon is EXPIRED I'll be entitled to use it since my original order had it. She claims to have put a note in my order about this as well. I forgot to inquire what'll happen if the REBATE OFFER is expired.

To be continued sometime around 01/27/03 ...

If Staples cancels your order, try Staples or Officemax B&M. They might pricematch and take your online coupon. Staples online was out of stock yesterday so I went to my local Officemax B&M. My final price for a Cendyne 4X is $129.99 after coupon + MIR and that includes 150 CD-Rs.

Yesterday I ordered, but it was a product with code IM to begin. Then it was cancelled today because they're out of stock. I checked on the website, and it said they were in fact in stock in my area, so I decided to call again. That was when I realized it was a different item #, without IM-something. So at that point I ordered it with no problems. Now to get the PM from OM, crossing my fingers. Anyone know an OM store that would be easy to PM to?

Diggler, basically the same thing happened with me, try reordering over the phone using the other $50 off $200 coupon from (morbidly obese)wallet and using the "other" item number. If you don't wanna do this, you could wait on the order, and YES the rebate will be valid regardless, I specifically asked, they said to just send in the stuff as usual, then to call the place if you're rejected and explain the situation (this happens everyday were her words) of course it's always best to get an email with that in writing, and send that in with your rebate submission.

That's what happens when you get greedy. I ordered mine online first thing Sunday morning and now i have my drive, $150 plus tax after rebates. You guys trying to save an extra 20 bucks calling and doing shady pricematches to a drive that wasn't even the same in the OM ad, well, guess you lost out.

I was unable to re-order during my phone call as it's still OOS. We'll see how it looks on the 27th. If they don't get it in stock in a reasonable time frame, I'll try to weasle some kind of GC out of them.

I've been to three local Officemax stores. All three have the Cendyne 104 model on the shelf with pull tags. 2 of the three are substituting the 105 for the 104 (the 104 is OOS). The price for the $105 is $229. There's a printable $30 off $150 on FW. And the $50 MIR. $169 after tax and MIR.........easy as pie!

and THIS Site has Princos for $0.58, Lead Data for $0.65 and Riteks for $0.79 (Plus Free Shipping!)

Of these brands, can anyone comment on which media is better than the other?

Also, anyone know where else I might find good & cheap media?

Want to know also. BTW, I will keep a05, not verbatim. Thanks for the suggestion link.

FYI, among the "non-branded" bulk DVD-R media, Ritek isconsidered to be the best by most people. Ritek 1x are in the $.70-$.90 range. Ritek "G04" 4x are about $2 or so each.

Princo 1x have worked well for me ($.68 each), but most people don't like Princo.
