Also, will the drive burn the DVD-RW disc that was included with the unit? Mine wouldn't burn it with Nero, so I updated to 1.21 firmware and now the drive won't even recognize the RW disc is inserted. Noticed the disc says "OPTODISC" on it and I heard that's a crappy generic brand.
My drive works fine though with the Memorex brand DVD-Rs I bought at Staples. 1X speed is slowww...:disgust:

Mine came with firmware 1.21, I didn't have to update it. The blank dvd-rw that came with it was fine too, I've already tested burning the stupid triple x movie in it and it played just fine. The only thing that didn't work was the pos nero express, I had to install a full version nero.

Yes. DO NOT label DVD recordable media. It *may* work fine on *certain* players, but the consensus is NOT to use adhesive sticky labels. I recently started having problems and I am now re-burning about 25 DVD-Rs.

If you must label them, I recommend "hub" labels from surething.com. They are small and don't mess with reflectivity or balance.

Well I thought so. Burned several, played them, put on a label downloaded from
CD Covers
And the next day the DVD was jumpy, skipped (hard time reading).

MY DVD player was about 1 1/2 years old. So I sold it to a friend for $50. Just went to BestBuy and got a new "Panasonic Multiformat (DVD-R, CD-R/RW, MP3 and WMA) DVD Player ? DVD-RV32K" for $109 with TWO $20 rebates- so for $69. It is rated to read DVD-R <and almost everything else>

It is the perfect match to the Pioneer A05 Im a happy camper now. It even reads the DVD-R's with labels, no problems.

Mine came with 1.21 firmware, nero INCD would not format the disc without errors, then puking the disc out about 10 minutes after the formatting started. Took the drive back to the B&M for a swap, second drive with 1.00 firmware did the same thing with the included RW disc. Went and bought a maxell DVD-RW disc and it formatted fine. Hope no one needs cendyne tech support, what a joke. 3 days of on and off calling about the problem only brought "all our technicians are on other calls, leave a message with a time for us to call you back..." 5 days later still no callback.

anyway, count me as one who could not get the included RW disc to format. DVD-R works, and with a decent quality RW disc that works great too. Burnt my first DVD-r disc with 4.2gb of data.. WOW.

Staples makes me so mad! Here I ordered last Sunday, Jan 19th, and they put my order in limbo because it was out-of-stock. Now it comes back in stock and my order that is over a week old is still in limbo and new orders are being filled. Staples is a lousy company.

I don't think there are any more $50 off coupons, although I would like to be proven wrong.

Will this DVD burner burn +R also? I know for a fact my Home DVD player will play the DVD +Rs but not sure on the -Rs and would hate to buy it and not support the +Rs.

Thanks!

Thanks! I have a friend that has some DVD-Rs Ill try one first. Yea I did see on VCDHelp it shows my Pioneer DV-343 supporting the -Rs the last time I checked but havnt tried one before.

Is there any differance? Is one better then the other? The only thing I seen over at VCDhelp was more home players seem to support the -Rs.

Again Thanks!

There is no difference other than the -R's seem to be more compatable with stand alone players more than the +R's are.

I've burned 9 DVD's with this, and they all worked masterfully ... now I just need a deal on some good, fast media! 1x takes over an hour to burn one disk!

Thanks! I went to the B&M Staples store near me about 2 hours ago and got this drive for $211.94 (including tax) using the $50 off $200 coupon! I had the $30 off $150 just in case it didn't work. She just typed it in and said yep that works... and she said oh, it also has a $50 rebate, that's nice. Now to send in the rebate and hope they honor it. The drive does say Pioneer DV 105 on the label. Box Only comes with 1 DVD-RW disc so gotta buy some more!

OK, anyone know of a site showing the differences between the DVR-104 and the DVR-105 (besides the 105 has 4x burning and no fan and a different CPU, so as of yet there is no RPC-1 Patch)
I bought a 105, but I'm wondering if there's any downside of it versus the DVR-104. I currently own a DVR-104, I was planning on eBaying it to pay for the 105. Even though I flash all my DVD-ROM's to be RPC-1. I have NEVER played a DVD from another region (why do I bother flashing the drive....I dunno, I think it makes me feel better to know I can) Any reason to keep the 104? Thanks.
