dood, you are missing the point....heh.....the bottom line is that you want 1 standard so that in x amount of years you can walk up to any dvd player and play/use it. if you have a company that makes commercial DVD's and you spend tons of money producing dvd's, you want them to work in any system. customers don't want another betamax...there are many other implications, but come on dood, you should get the point....
hey badluck,
Just for the record, if you have a company that makes commercial DVDs, you already know that:
1) Commercially DVD-R is the industry standard for pre-production authoring of DVD media
2) DVD-R/RW disc is 100% logically and physically compatible with the DVD-Video standard
3) DVD-R/RW disc is 100% logically and physically compatible with the DVD-ROM standard
So I would not be concerned about the longevity of DVD-R. If you want to play in this arena, DVD-R is currently the safest bet. And you also have to realize that NEITHER DVD-R or DVD+R will be the standard forever. We'll be writing with blue lasers in a few years.
