hrmph, its been a month since I mailed mine in. Actually it seems over a month. I somehow lost my folder with all my mail in rebate photocopies. can anyone here scan be a copy of thier UPC (minus the serial #) and email it to me? Thanks

staples is usually pretty good on rebates they are sucking the hind tit on this one.
Paragon rebates only gives canned email responses as well.

i hate rebates with a passion

These REBATE people are morons. I emailed them asking where my rebate is and they say my paperwork must be lost in the mail. (funny how the only mail i ever lose is rebate paperwork).
Here is what they told me:

"Thank you for your rebate inquiry. Our records indicate that we are
awaiting the supporting materials for your online submission. Since
it has been more than 4 weeks since you registered the rebate, the
supporting materials may have been misdirected or lost in the mail.
Please mail or fax a copy of your UPC barcode, sales receipt, and
rebate form to:

Rebate Special Services
PO Box 028516
Miami FL 33102-8516

Fax Number: (317) 805-5581
Please allow 24-48 hours to process your fax."



Now how am i gonna fax them my barcode when i cut the f*ckin thing out and sent it to them already??

I would just wait a few more days. I sent mine out the Thursday during the week of the deal and it *just* processed. I personally make photocopies of all my stuff. Unfortunately, when I was moving, I somehow misplaced the folder and lost most of em :/

They pulled the same thing on me when I sent in my rebate and all the required info on a previous purchase. Needless to say, I didnt have the barcode or copies either so I lost my $50 rebate.

I'm still awaiting my rebate. I messed up and didn't include the serial number from the box so I had to re-submit it.

Has there been any firmware updates/hacks for this drive?

if someone could provide me with a scan of the barcode i would greatly appreciate it.

I have my reciept and rebate forms and a box cover with a hole cut out of it because i mailed it in, i'm just need a scan of the barcode.

For these type circumstances they should at least allow you to mail them simply your original sales receipt. I mean, your original sales receipt has the most important information on it, proof of purchase, right?

nope...the most important is the ORIGINAL proof of purchase tab (UPC barcode). This makes an item non-returnable in almost all instances. That guarantees the purchases. If yours gets lost in the mail, you should be able to easily send them a copy. If not, most likely, you've failed to follow their instructions of making copies. I don't have the rebate form in front of me but almost all state on the form/website to make copies. I believe I remember this one having such instructions.

Hmm, what info does the original UPC barcode have on it that makes it more important than the original sales receipt?

If worse comes to worse I suppose you could go into the store and make a copy. I'm sure they'd understand (that is, if they're cool; some are just too pussy or too stupid or too fascist).

One more comment on this drive:

I love this thing, and I've been using it nonstop for weeks. The one big shortcoming if you don't a DVD drive already is that it rips very slowly.

I picked up a Lite-On DVD reader, and it has slashed the time it takes to burn a movie. DVD-Decrypter is remarkably faster.

I'm burning backups to my dvd's in under an hour on Ritek 4x media (with the faster ripping, and a little faster processor and memory).

The Pioneer is a slow ripper, something along the the lines of 2X speed average. By comparison, my Sony and Hitachi DVD drives will rip at 6X to 10X without too much problem. However if the DVD is beat up, a Netflix disk that has been around the block a time or thirty, the Pioneer has a better chance of doing the rip at the slower speed.

I love this drive.

Ditto: This drive rocks!!!

Finally upgraded to the 1.30 firmware...no noticable difference, so no harm.

I stocked up on 2x Sony DVD-R's (.80c each) when I had the chance, still burning strong.

thanks man! I have been chceckin firmware-flash hoping for a hack but havent in the last few days...look what I missed!

Do I need to downgrade first to another firmware before i can flash up to the hacked one?

here is the easiest way i found:

first you need to get downgrade from here and downgrade: http://gradius.rpc1.org/dvr/a05_downgrade.zip

then get the upgrade from here: http://gradius.rpc1.org/dvr/a05_ritek.zip

keep them in seperate folders!

then follow this example of the downgrade:

from a CMD line:

C:\a05_downgrade upgdvd /F

(make sure answer NO to upgrade all drives otherwise you'll flash firmware on all cd/dvd drives)

and do same thing for upgrade:

C:\a05_rite upgdvd /F

Welcome to AnandTech forums ! How do you propose to get info to/from you as your PrivateMessage(PM) and email are not visible. Also ..what was your purchase date as there is a time limit on postmark. The sale end date was 2-22-2003 and had to be postmarked within 30 days.
